Summary

About to enter college Finn has become lost in the outback of tropical Queensland of Australia. There he discovers an archaic preserve and a giant salamander whose language he can interpret. The story chronicles his evolutionary adventures as the salmanader and mammals take on the dinosaurs. The smaller animals appear to have no chance, and they put their faith in an Animal Queen who never appears. Finn survives to tell his story to his friends and be coaxed back to his sanity. In the telling of his battles and how he gained his scars, Finn discovers his love for one of his friends.
