  Versatile actor William Conrad had a long career (1945-1993) and was an American World War II fighter pilot, actor, producer, and director whose career spanned five decades in radio, film and television.He appeared in nearly 8,000 radio shows during the golden age and when TV beckoned, he delivered, starring in Cannon (1971-76), Nero Wolfe (1981) and Jake and the Fat Man (1987-1992). He also narrated the television adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle (1959-1964) and The Fugitive (1963-1967). He starred in numerous films, including the The Killers (1946), Body and Soul (1947), Sorry, Wrong Number (1948), Joan of Arc (1948) and The Naked Jungle (1954).   Howard Lovecraft is an American writer, who became famous for his works of horror fiction. Nowadays he is considered as one of the best 20th-century authors in his genre.  "The Cats of Ultar" is a story of one city, where it was forbidden to kill cats. It was first published in the journal Tryout in 1920. This tale was Lovecraft’s favorite as he was a cat lover. It is one of the most popular stories by the writer. There was an old couple in the city Ultar who liked to trap and kill their neighbors’ cats. Nobody knew exactly, why they did this, but it was a pleasure for them. Once a caravan of dark strangers came through the city. With the caravan came a boy orphan Menes. The only friend he had was a little black kitten. One morning Menes didn’t find his precious kitten and villagers told him about the man and his wife and strange sounds heard the night before. The boy started to pray and the clouds in the sky started to take weird shapes. What happened then? You will recognize when you read the story.   On a cool crisp night in the Epping Forest, a stagecoach was moving amongst the shadows of a full silver moon. "the moonlight gives the forest a magical glow", said Mary Gregory a passenger in the coach. The other passenger was her brother, Magistrate Sir Thomas Gregory, but he thought it felt less magical but more eerie and dangerous. He was seeing highwaymen and footpads in every shadow. The driver was also very nervous as highwaymen were known to work within these woods. Suddenly a handsome well dressed man carrying a brace of gleaming duelling pistols appeared, He was riding a white horse and had come out of the shadows into the moonlight. The nervous driver sped up the coach. The horseman was following the coach but at a faster pace, shouting "Stop now or I'll shoot!" "Stand and deliver, your money or your life!" shouted the highwayman Firing his pistol he winged the driver who knowing the next shot might kill him slowed the coach to a stop.

  William Fryer Harvey (1885-1937) was an English writer of short stories, most notably in the mystery and horror genres.Born into a wealthy Quaker family in Yorkshire, he went to Balliol College, Oxford, and took a degree in medicine at Leeds. Ill health dogged him, however, and he devoted much of his recuperation to writing short stories. "Unwinding" is a strange story based around a simple parlour game. The guests take it in turn to say what the thing mentioned by the previous player reminds them of. But when the vicar says that first class railway compartments remind him of murder, everyone is puzzled. Over supper the vicar tells a very peculiar story. But it is the behaviour of the newcomer, the mysterious Mr. Cholmondery, which is most peculiar...
