Beschreibung

"Titus Andronicus" is a tragedy by William Shakespeare believed to have been written between 1588 and 1593, probably in collaboration with George Peele. Many scholars consider "Titus Andronicus" to be Shakespeare's first tragedy and is often seen as his attempt to emulate the violent and bloody revenge plays of his contemporaries, which were extremely popular with audiences throughout the 16th century.

"Titus Andronicus" tells the story of the Roman general of the same name, who upon returning from a long war campaign, discovers that he is the people's choice to be the emperor after the recent death of the previous one. Though he rejects the people's will and backs the former emperor's son, the manipulative politics between his family, a family of Goths that he has taken back to Rome as prisoners, and the sons of the last emperor, resulting in violence, bloodshed, and many gruesome murders.

This is a collection of what I feel are some of the most important social/cognitive psychology experiments, studies, demonstrations, biases, and systematic reviews, presented in an entertaining way while adhering to academic standards.

I have always been fascinated by how our behaviors, cognition (thoughts), and affect (how we feel) are greatly dependent upon our social environment and our imperfect brains. I find it fascinating--perhaps because I am an American who was raised in the typical American cultural environment where I learned that what we consider "the self" consists of some magic "soul" that defines who we are—our behaviors (including choices and decisions), our cognition (including thoughts and beliefs), and our feelings. This could not be further from the truth. "We" are a result of an often incomprehensible interaction between biology and environment where some traits are more greatly influenced by social factors than others. Who we are is a result of social forces—the influence of other people and the human-created systems in which we operate. We can ignore this fact, maintain an illusion of control, or face reality and learn how to navigate this world and come out on top—personally, professionally, and financially. I choose the latter.

My name is Bo Bennett, and I hold a PhD in social psychology with a passion for this subject. While this book is not about me, my interpretations and commentary do make up most of the sections of each entry based on the content written by the original authors of the research or other sources—each of which will be cited when used.
    Enjoy this short book!

The Irish Revolution at the beginning of the twentieth century spawned the creation of the modern Irish state. This is a comprehensive framework of that revolution in its totality, taking into account the broad range of social, economic and political developments as well as the IRA's campaign of guerrilla warfare and the British response to it.
Drawing on such previously unpublished sources as the Irish Department of Defense's Military History Bureau, we paint a broad picture of the people and the key events in the Irish struggle for independence. We present much of the behind the scenes debate within the British Government in the prosecution of its policies in response to the revolt in Ireland. British official frustration provoked by the acceptance of the Anglo-Irish treaty by the majority of the Irish people and the independent institutions it sought to set in place is also explicitly chronicled.
New light is shed on the Anglo-Irish Treaty negotiations as well as on the divisions within Irish nationalism before and indeed afterwards which culminated in the Irish Civil War. The role of external forces including public opinion in the United States and British competing obligations at home and abroad are also covered. Considerable attention is given to the development of democratic government in the fledgling Irish Free State in the midst of domestic upheaval, and to the broader effort at nation building which followed after the Civil War.

    Refugees - The Crisis of...

The refugee crisis is one of the most pressing humanitarian challenges of our time. Across the globe, millions of individuals are forced to flee their homes due to conflict, violence, persecution, and natural disasters. These displaced individuals, known as refugees, face an uncertain future, often enduring unimaginable hardships in their quest for safety and stability. As of recent estimates, more than 100 million people have been forcibly displaced, with a significant portion seeking refuge in countries that already face their own social, political, and economic challenges. The sheer scale and complexity of the crisis demand urgent attention from governments, international organizations, and civil society to find sustainable solutions.

The root causes of displacement are multifaceted. Armed conflicts, such as the civil war in Syria and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, have displaced millions, while ethnic and religious persecution continues to push people from their homelands. Climate change is also playing an increasingly significant role, with droughts, floods, and rising sea levels displacing whole communities. The combination of political instability, economic hardship, and environmental degradation has created a perfect storm of displacement, and the numbers continue to rise.

Despite the challenges refugees face, their resilience and determination to rebuild their lives are evident. In host countries, refugees contribute to their new communities, often starting businesses, integrating into the workforce, and enriching cultural diversity. However, their journey is far from easy. Many refugees face barriers to legal recognition, limited access to basic services, and widespread xenophobia and discrimination. The experience of displacement is often marked by a sense of loss—of home, identity, and a sense of belonging.
