Developed as the commercial hub of the Texas cotton and sugarcane industries, Houston was designed for profit, not stability. Its first residents razed swamplands into submission to construct a maze of highways and suburbs, giving the city a sprawling, centerless energy as storms and floods rattled coastal Texas. When Hurricane Harvey made landfall in 2017, Fields set off from his home in Iowa back to the battered city of his childhood to rescue his mother. Fields tracks the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, one storm in a long lineage that threatens the fourth largest city in America.Fields depicts the history of Houston with reverence and lyrical certainty, investigating the conflicting facets of Texan identity that are steeped in racial subjugation, environmental collapse, and capitalist greed. He writes of the development of the modern city in the wake of the destruction of Galveston in 1900; of the oil booms and busts that shaped the city; of the unchecked lust for growth that makes Houston so expressive of the American dream. We Hold Our Breath is a portrait of a city that exists despite it all, a city whose story has always been one of war waged relentlessly against water.

You’ll need to shift your mindset. In this guided meditation, you will move past your fears and worries about being the perfect mom and you’ll, instead learn to trust yourself, take motherhood in stride and step up like the warrior mom you are becoming. Embrace & Succeed At Motherhood comes with two valuable ‘extras’:1.	2 different endings. Besides the actual guided meditation itself, you will receive a choice of a ‘sleep’ or ‘wake’ ending depending on whether you are listening in the morning or evening.2.	A deep sleep music track. If you choose a sleep ending, this track will help deepen your sleep after you have completed your meditation session. Hi:) I’m Amy Applebaum. And I’m really glad you are here!As a business owner who has made millions and a Life Success coach who has coached dozens of ambitious women (and some men), I believe very strongly that success is just as much about ‘how you think’ as it is ‘what you do’.Success is first and foremost an Inside Job.I have seen it in my own life.I’ve seen it with the entrepreneurs and industry leaders I have worked with whose lives have been wildly transformed just by changing their thoughts and then taking actions on those new beliefs.Let’s face it. We have a lot on our plate. And those of us who are running our own businesses even more so.We are giving so much to the world around us.But things won’t shift until we get those birds on our shoulders to stop the negative chitchat. And the best fastest way to cut the self-doubt in its tracks is through meditation. And I make doing meditation dead easy.My MOVE collections are guided meditations. You don’t have to learn the ‘ins and outs ’of meditation. All you need to do is throw those earbuds in and drift off to sleep!Downloaded over 500,000 times on places like iTunes and Audible, my MOVE meditations don’t just ‘relax’ and destress, they are specifically designed to help you get MOVING and unstuck. So that you can finally live the life you have always wanted!“This is truly amazing I feel so relaxed, confident and in charge of my life. Thank you for this amazing piece of work.” ~ Colinwest15Isn’t it time? Isn’t it time to set aside the roadblocks that are impeding you from being the BEST MOM you can be? And it’s so easy.Just put the earbuds in and listen.Nothing simpler. All you need to do to open the door to “awesome mom-ness” the EASY wayis waiting for you here.

Not long ago, the Solar System was the only example of a planetary system—a star and the bodies orbiting it—that we knew. Now, we know thousands of planetary systems, and have even been able to observe planetary systems at the moment of their birth. This Very Short Introduction explores this new frontier, incorporating the latest research. The book takes the listener on a journey through the grand sweep of time, from the moment galaxies begin to form after the Big Bang to trillions of years in the future when the Universe will be a dilute soup of dim galaxies populated mostly by red dwarf stars. Throughout, Raymond T. Pierrehumbert introduces the latest insights gained from a new generation of telescopes that catch planetary systems at the moment of formation, and to the theoretical advances that attempt to make sense of these observations. He explains how the elements that make up life and the planets on which life can live are forged in the interiors of dying stars, and make their way into rocky planets. He also explores the vast array of newly discovered planets orbiting stars other than our own, and explains the factors that determine their climates. Finally, he reveals what determines how long planetary systems can live, and what happens in their end-times.

Hunt for the Shadow Wolf - The...

Renowned rewilder Derek Gow has a dream: that one day we will see the return of the wolf to Britain as it has already returned elsewhere. As Derek worked to reintroduce the beaver, he began to hear stories of the wolf, both real and mythical, and his fascination with this creature grew. With increasing curiosity, Derek started to piece together fragments of information, stories and artefacts to reveal a shadowy creature that first walked proud through these lands and then was hunted to extinction as coexistence turned to fear, hatred – and domination. What Derek came to realize was that the underlying motives behind our hatred were actually far more prosaic and, like most persecutions, to do with power and profit. We turned the wolf into a savage beast and saw its extirpation as a civilizing mission. But the wolf survived far longer than many thought and Derek tells of his sightings of the wolf through folklore and mythology, the records of grand estates and parish churches as well as wolf heads, both real and recreated. With bitingly funny but also tender stories, Hunt for the Shadow Wolf is Derek’s quest to uncover the true nature of this creature because, as we seek to heal our landscape, we must reconcile our relationship with it. Before we can even begin to bring the wolf back, we need to understand it. “I have loved this chase dearly and though what unfolds might be an ending of sorts, I have no intention to let this hunt cease.”?Derek Gow, from Hunt for the Shadow Wolf

This book, with the subtitle "Across the Continent of South America" describes the scientific expedion of 1867 to the equatorial Andes and the Amazon. The route was from Guayaquil to Quito, over the Cordillera, through the forest to Napo, and, finally, on the Rio Napo to Pebas on the Maranon. Besides this record, the expedition - under the auspices of the Smithsonian Institute - collected samples of rocks and plants, and numerous specimen of animals. The scientists also compiled a vocabulary of local languages and produced a new map of equatorial America. James Orton (1830 - 1877) was Professor in Natural History in Vassar College, and corresponding member of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia. (Summary by Availle, from the Preface)
