Summary

A guide to the techniques, gear and skills that the ambitious hillwalker needs to tackle Britain's classic mountaineering challenges - from the tricky step of Broad Stand on the traverse from Scafell Pike to Sca Fell, to the mighty Tower Ridge on Ben Nevis - competently. There was a time when climbing and walking were completely distinct activities. But as the number of people getting out to enjoy the wonders and challenges of Britain's mountains has grown, the definition of a mountain 'walk' has changed. The book guides the hillwalker through technical terrain where the unaware can all too easily fall off. Use of the rope to abseil, belay and protect ascents and descents on steep ground, the placement of protection, gear selection, navigation, survival, scrambling and first aid skills are all dealt with as are the basic skills required for safe travel by the winter hillwalker. Features 12 great British mountaineering routes - such as the Aonach Eagach in Glen Coe, Pinnacle Ridge in the Lake District, the Cneifion Arete in Snowdonia, and Skye's wonderful Cuillin Ridge - where the practical skills may be applied when the necessary techniques, abilities and confidence have been acquired.

Complete with exclusive photographs and sensational backstage stories, Is Wrestling Fixed? is the much anticipated memoir from the biggest legend in wrestling fandom himself, Bill Apter
As a kid growing up in New York in the late ’50s, Bill Apter fell in love with professional wrestling, and it wasn’t long before he was rubbing shoulders with the greats as a young reporter and photographer. Since then, he’s become the world’s best-known wrestling magazine personality, and he’s had professional and personal relationships with a who’s-who of the business, like Triple H, Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Sting, and Ric Flair.
In his fun-loving memoir, Bill Apter takes us from the dressing rooms of the Bruno Sammartino era and the last days of the territories, to the birth of WrestleMania, the emergence of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and the “Attitude Era,” to today’s WWE and superstars like John Cena, Daniel Bryan, and Roman Reigns. He also shares stories of his days photographing boxing and his interactions with stars like Muhammad Ali and other champions, and documents his appearances on the WWE Network and his work as editor of 1wrestling.com.
Find out which wrestler threatened him, learn about the dead wrestler who was really alive, and discover how hanging out with Andy Kaufman led to the comic’s notorious feud with Jerry “The King” Lawler. Still intimately involved in the wrestling business, the award-winning Apter has a story on everybody.

From beanballs to basebrawls, the most important rules governing the game of baseball have never been officially written down—until now. They have no sanction from the Commissioner, appear nowhere in any official publication, and are generally not posted on any clubhouse wall. They represent a set of time-honored customs, rituals, and good manners that show a respect for the game, one's teammates, and one's opponents. Sometimes they contradict the official rulebook. The fans generally only hear about them when one is bent or broken, and it becomes news for a few days. Now, for the first time ever, Paul Dickson has put these unwritten rules down on paper, covering every situation, whether on the field or in the clubhouse, press box, or stands. Along with entertaining baseball axioms, quotations, and rules of thumb, this essential volume contains the collected wisdom of dozens of players, managers, and reporters on the secret rules that you break at your own risk, such as:1.7.1. In a Fight, Everyone Must Leave the Bench and the Bullpen Has to Join In1.13.3. In a Blowout Game, Never Swing as Hard as You Can at a 3-0 Pitch5.1.0. The classic guide to living amid wild, unspoiled nature by a legendary outdoorsman and an experienced survivalist.     A longtime Army colonel, Townsend Whelen later became renowned for his passion for wilderness exploration and his skills as a rifleman. Bradford Angier, inspired by Henry David Thoreau and possessing the same adventurous spirit, advocated for back-to-the-land living and wrote extensively on outdoor survival skills. In this book, they collaborate to offer a guide to discovering the inexpressible thrill of primitive country, the workshop of nature, and the appreciation of wilderness technique.    Unspoiled regions possess a quiet beauty and peace—no artificiality, no crowds, all woods uncut. There is unbounded satisfaction and pleasure in successfully meeting the challenge of the wilderness. Colonel Townsend Whelen and Bradford Angier have combined their vast experiences camping and bivouacking to produce the perfect guide to peace and utter freedom. If the wilderness calls you, they invite you to join them and talk about how to live in it. They explain what from their experience they found to be the best ways of entering wild and unspoiled country, of finding their way through it with the right knowledge and equipment, and of living there in comfort and safety. On Your Own in the Wilderness is their explicit direction on how to escape to an earthly paradise.
