Summary

Akashic launched our BLACK SHEEP YA imprint with the first book in this series, Changers Book One: Drew. The first two installments continue selling well for us -- we're now in our third printing of Book One, and we have licensed the series into translation into German, Spanish, Norwegian, and to Little Brown in the UK.TV producer Meryl Poster, the former president of television for the Weinstein Co. optioned the entire 4-book series for Lionsgate TV with the authors signed on to write the pilot episode. The series has received reviews: New York Times, O, the Oprah Magazine, School Library Journal, Publishers Weekly (starred review), etc. John Green has been supportive of the series, including sending tweets to his legions of followers. This is the third in a four-book series of YA novels all starring the same protagonist (who take on different identities in each volume) Both authors (they are parents of young teenage children) will be very active in book promotion, including visits to schools and library programs in addition to book festivals and YA book club visits. The authors will continue to maximize the use of their empathy project and website: Wearechangers.org.
Available since: 11/01/2016.

The author of The Kid’s User Guide to a Human Life: Book One: An Open Mind returns with mindfulness techniques for dealing with emotions.   The second book in the Kid’s User Guide to a Human Life series teaches kids (and inner kids) about mindfulness techniques for working with emotions. It looks closely at how feelings arise and how to navigate the sometimes tumultuous river of emotions, and it shares simple, yet very effective, ways to sort through them. Through different techniques, kids will be able to learn more about being mindful and figuring out how they feel to help lead them towards better emotional well-being and health.   The Kid’s User Guide to a Human Life series helps the reader discover the answer to the question “Who am I really?” by explaining all the ways in which we change and shift from one role in our life to the next, and how even our body doesn’t stay the same for long. It is great for parents, teachers, and counselors who are interested in learning more about mindfulness for kids and how to discuss and teach the important points and ideas.

From the duo that brought you I Didn’t Do My Homework Because. . . . A wacky story of a class-trip adventure that “will be popular with tall-tale fans” (Booklist).   Notoriously (and delightfully) unreliable narrator Henry is late to a museum where his class is spending the day. But he has a plan: He’ll just catch up in one of the exhibits. That’s not possible in these halls! With volcanoes erupting, dinosaurs charging, and secret stairwells lurking, reuniting with his classmates becomes a quest of outrageous proportions. Young readers will revel in this entertaining book’s over-the-top antics from the celebrated international author-illustrator team behind Junior Library Guild selections The Truth About My Unbelievable Summer and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to School.

Iris's grandmother, Mimi, has started to put jam on her scrambled eggs and tie blue ribbons around her fingers to remind her of stuff. Her house, always full of things, is becoming harder and harder to navigate, and when Iris goes to stay, she feels as if a whole life is becoming muddled up. As her grandmother's memory fades, a mystery is uncovered. Who is Coral, and what happened to her?
A moving exploration of memory and stories, told through the eyes of a grandchild losing a beloved grandparent to dementia. Beautifully, engagingly told, this is an ultimately hopeful book for our time.
