Summary

In this entrancing poetry collection, Susan Frybort reminds us of the glory that resides at the heart of everyday living. With poems that read like sacred correspondence between our hearts and our essence, we are called to remember the wonderment of life's ever changing tide. Whether it be in the call of a mourning dove, a contemplative shore, or a field of golden wild grass, the reader is left with no choice but to embrace hope in a transitory world. Written with a depth of insight and compassion seldom seen, this is the rarest of first collections. Love and nature poems coalesce like a reverential hymn to the beloved: the beloved at the heart of every breath, the beloved that calls to us as wind, the beloved that resides on the bridge between our hearts. Through Frybort's eyes, there is profound significance in all things perceived small. Absolutely everything is the beloved. Hope is a Traveler is a homage to the miracle of true being.

A collection of political essays, poetry, and dramatic works by the Nobel Prize–winning playwright and author of Betrayal.   Throughout his life, playwright, poet, and political activist Harold Pinter has consistently cast light on the hypocrisy of power and those who would defend the status quo for the sake of their own security and comfort. Awarded the Wilfred Owen Prize in 2004 for his poetry condemning US military intervention in Iraq, Mr. Pinter has succeeded in combining his artistry with his political activism.  Death etc. brings together Pinter’s most poignant and especially relevant writings in response to war. From chilling psychological portraits of those who commit atrocities in the name of a higher power, to essays on the state-sponsored terrorism of present-day regimes, to solemn hymns commemorating the faceless masses that perish unrecognized, Mr. Pinter’s writings are as essential to the preservation of open debate as to our awareness of personal involvement in the fate of our global community.

Broadway Is My Beat was a dark, gritty radio crime drama that ran on CBS from 1949 until 1954. The series was originally broadcast from New York with Anthony Ross portraying Times Square Police Detective Danny Clover. Produced by Lester Gottlieb, it was directed by John Dietz. By the thirteenth episode, the series moved to Hollywood (still set in NYC) with producer Elliott Lewis directing a new cast with scripts by Morton Fine and David Friedkin (the duo that would later write and develop TV's popular secret-agent series I Spy). The opening theme of "I'll Take Manhattan" introduced Detective Danny Clover (now played by Larry Thor) as a hardened New York City copy who worked homicide "from Times Square to Columbus Circle—the gaudiest, the most violent, the lonesomest mile in the world." Clover narrated tales of the Great White Way to the music of Wilbur Hatch and Alexander Courage. The recreation of Manhattan's rich, aural tapestry required the talents of three sound effects artists. Cast regulars included Charles Calvert (as Sgt. Gino Tartaglia) and Jack Kruschen (as Sgt. Muggavan). Now, enjoy 12 of the finest episodes from this excellent crime series in this collection.

The Land of the Free, the Home of the Brave. This illustrious phrase encapsulates the aspirations of America and its people.

In this volume we feature 50 American poets beginning with the Colonist Anne Bradstreet in the 17th century, when American poetry was entirely rooted in its parental British forms. From here our classic poets take us through Centuries of history, through Independence and expansion Westward, across the cities and vast landscapes of their words. Along the journey we also meet the Imagists, the poets from the Harlem Renaissance by way of the Transcendentalists and the Fireside Poets.

The giants of the poetic way loom large; Walt Whitman. Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allan Poe, Paul Laurence Dunbar and Edna St Vincent Millay. Our rambling poetic stroll gives voice to the nation’s hopes, its dreams, its failings, its musings.

We cannot hope to define America but we do provide the many changing moods and flavours of the times as we discover the essence of its soul.

These poems peel back the layers of suburban life and the American Dream. Vivian Maier was a self-taught street photographer who worked as a nanny for wealthy employers in New York and Chicago. The poet imagines her as a documentarian who is compassionate, abrasive, and meditative, while her subjects provide their own narrative. More than anything, the poems are a response to her work, which is all we have that comes directly from her. It is a deliberate challenge to the “mystery nanny” she is reduced to in much of the constructed narrative of her life.
