Summary

These are some of the nastiest stories I have ever written. If you have a weak heart or a faint constitution you might want to read something that is a little easier on your sensibilities - like maybe a how-to completely-illustration manual of human vivisection.
LEFTOVERS - What's left of a man when everything worth losing has already been lost? Is vengeance worth any price? Ask Father Simon. Leftovers is a story of redemption, sacrifice and leftovers. It is a story of the bottom and what you find lying beneath it. It is a novella-length hardcore chill that will shock even the most hardened reader.

I've thrown three gut-punch stories to go along with LEFTOVERS.

STATISTIC – Just when you think you don’t count anymore you come to the bridge and you find what you really are counted for.

SOUL SURVIVOR – You didn’t really think the devil was just after souls, now did you? This one is more weird than nasty but who really cares? It all comes out in the wash…

DOPPLE DRIBBLE – A dark and nasty yarn about a man who is haunted by a basketball. This might sound a little goofy but once you get into this tale you are never going to sit comfortably when you hear the sound of a basketball being dribbled down the evening sidewalk.

PRAISE FOR TWO-FISTED NASTY

"This short novella--which is as dark and grimy as the back alleys of skid row--displays author Vernon at his finest: just when you think the horror can't get any worse, he employs his bizarre-style to twist LEFTOVERS into a surreal story that you just won't be able to shake off. LEFTOVERS is a must for Steve Vernon fans, as well as those who like their horror shocking and off-centered--and most amazingly, there's still bits of the author's trademark humor despite the seriousness of the story." – Horror Fiction Review

"If Harlan Ellison, Richard Matheson and Robert Bloch had a three-way sex romp in a hot tub, and then a team of scientists came in and filtered out the water and mixed the leftover DNA into a test tube, the resulting genetic experiment would most likely grow up into Steve Vernon." - BOOKGASM

Dracula is an 1897 Gothic horror novel by Irish author Bram Stoker. It introduced the character of Count Dracula, and established many conventions of subsequent vampire fantasy. The novel tells the story of Dracula's attempt to move from Transylvania to England so that he may find new blood and spread the undead curse, and of the battle between Dracula and a small group of men and a woman led by Professor Abraham Van Helsing.
Dracula has been assigned to many literary genres including vampire literature, horror fiction, the gothic novel, and invasion literature. The novel has spawned numerous theatrical, film, and television interpretations.
The story is told in an epistolary format, as a series of letters, diary entries, newspaper articles, and ships' log entries, whose narrators are the novel's protagonists, and occasionally supplemented with newspaper clippings relating events not directly witnessed. The events portrayed in the novel take place chronologically and largely in England and Transylvania during the 1890s and all transpire within the same year between 3 May and 6 November. A short note is located at the end of the final chapter written 7 years after the events outlined in the novel.

A chilling twist on the haunted-house story as five strangers resolve to spend two weeks in an abandoned, high-rise urban housing project that even gang lords and crack dealers avoid . . . Chicago’s Dreamland Housing Project was created to give people with nothing a second chance. Like so many ill-conceived dreams of its time, eventually the project fell into disrepair and disrepute, just another slum ruled by the gangs and the drug dealers. But there was one building in the complex that contained an evil far fouler than the kind running the streets. Here eerie sounds emanated nightly from the elevator shafts and the shadows at the far end of the hallways, and inexplicable, fatal “accidents” were the norm. Here human blood regularly soaked the walls and cheap carpeting as rapists and murderers ran rampant, though none could remember their dark deeds afterward. Now, decades later, Dreamland is empty of its residents and mostly demolished. But one building still stands, thanks to billionaire Ramsey Lomax, who won’t let the city raze the last and most notorious tower until he is done with it. Along with four willing strangers—a writer, an ex-cop, a doctor, and a psychic, each with a reason for participating—Lomax intends to spend two weeks living in the abandoned tower to see if the legends are real. But nothing can prepare these five for the terror they encounter once the front door slams behind them, trapping them all inside. Because in Dreamland, every nightmare comes true.
