Summary

“Woodworking is not about what children make – it’s about the changes that are made within the child” - Pete Moorhouse

◆  Are you a parent looking for ways to engage with your kids, bond with them, and have fun?

◆  Are you looking for ways to help turn off the smartphones, tablets, and television and still have your kids and teens occupied with a fun activity?

In an ever-changing society, there aren't a whole lot of activities that are geared towards children, teens, and parents. Marketing strategies have become so specific that they target the exact age ranges.

Fortunately, if you take a step back from "modern" society, you can get involved in some age-old crafts and practical skills that are fun for the whole family!

Woodworking is such a craft. Not only are there projects that range in difficulty for different skill and age groups, but there are some projects that can be completed by two people, giving you a chance to interact and bond with your children face to face. Without the input of noise and visual stimulation from screen entertainment, you and your children can talk to each other and create something together.

Woodworking is detail-oriented crafts, so it is best to unplug completely, removing distractions like phones and screened devices while participating. It is a good excuse for you and your children to step back and develop a different set of skills.

By utilizing this book, you'll learn why woodworking skills are important for the overall growth of our kids. You will be taught basic techniques and be introduced to the proper tools and materials for these crafts. Additionally, you'll have several beginner projects with step by step instructions to get started on with your children. This is a great place to start digital detox and bonding activities!

I've included photographs of realistic beginner projects, and I'll explain the processes and standard operating procedures associated with them.

In 1983 Tristan Jones, well known as one of the finest sailing adventure writers of our time, had his left leg amputated. Refusing to become landbound after a lifetime at sea, he acquired a specially designed, virtually untippable 38-foot trimaran and began to sail around the world. Outward Leg is the tale of his intrepid voyage from San Diego to London. The Improbable Voyage chronicles his heroic journey along an unusual and hazardous route from the North Sea, through the rivers of Central Europe, to the Black Sea. In Somewheres East of Suez, the final installment of this extraordinary saga, Tristan sails eight thousand miles from Istanbul to Thailand. From the tourist- and terrorist-dominated ports of the eastern Mediterranean to African outposts peopled with famine refugees, Tristan maintains the unique perspective of a man who has had minimal contact with society's restraints, using his acerbic wit to spare no fools and offer biting social commentary. After barely escaping with his life in South Yemen, he sets off for the Far East, determined to win out against the difficulties of his disability, whether battling a tropical cyclone or surviving on a dwindling ration of fresh water in the vast windless expanse of the Indian Ocean.

A collection of travel essays from the bestselling author whose writing sparkles with “prose as luminous as the Mediterranean air he loves” (Time). Few men have traveled as wisely as Lawrence Durrell. Born in India, he lived in Corfu as a young man, enjoying salt air, cobalt water, and an unfettered bohemian lifestyle. Over the following decades, he rambled around the Mediterranean, making homes in Egypt, Cyprus, and Greece. Each time he moved, he asked himself why he felt compelled to travel. In this book, he gives his answer. Durrell knew that the wise traveler looks not for pleasure, education, or landmarks, but is hungry for a sense of place—the element of a landscape, city, or nation that makes its people who they are. In this anthology, passages from Durrell’s classic Mediterranean writings are paired with observations on other lands. His writing is poetic, lush, and achingly clear, for this was a man who truly saw the world.
