Brittains Ida or Venus and Anchises

While hunting, the boy Anchises stumbles upon Venus's forest retreat and is so kindly entertained by the goddess that he becomes the proud father of Aeneas, the hero of Vergil's Aeneid. The poem is an epyllion like Marlowe's "Hero and Leander" and Shakespeare's "Venus and Adonis," a short erotic poem with a mythological subject. The style is Spenserian, the stanzas rhyming ababbccc. When Brittain's Ida was published in 1628, the publisher ascribed it to Edmund Spenser. However, in 1926 Ethel Seaton discovered and published Fletcher's original manuscript, whose opening stanzas make clear that this is the work of Fletcher, who entitled it "Venus and Anchises." - Summary by T. We’re Good is an inspiring story about a well-rounded teenage athlete whose life changed in the blink of an eye. Chris O’Brien innocently dove into the ocean, hit a sandbar, and was instantly paralyzed. Going from a D-1 athlete to quadriplegic at eighteen years old is life changing. Chris was a swimmer, sailor, and student in college going about life before the accident. First time author, Meg Keeshan McGovern, has beautifully captured the pathos that accompanies a family tragedy and illustrates how it can become triumph for all. Through narrative and personal stories she guides the reader through the various stages of grief, denial, anger, therapy and devotion that this one family went through to emerge on the other side stronger and full of more promise than ever.

    NO RULES. NO PROBLEM.

Bruce Lee remains the gold standard that all martial artists are compared to. But could he actually fight? World Champions in karate competition have gone on record to point out that he never once competed in tournaments. Were his martial abilities merely a trick of the camera?

For the first time ever, Bruce Lee authority and bestselling author John Little takes a hard look at Bruce Lee’s real-life fights to definitively answer these questions with over 30 years of research that took him thousands of miles. Little has tracked down over 30 witnesses to the real fights of Bruce Lee as well as those who were present at his many sparring sessions (in which he was never defeated) against the very best martial artists in the world.

From the mean streets of Hong Kong, to challenge matches in Seattle and Oakland, to the sets of his iconic films where he was challenged repeatedly, this is the incredible real-life fighting record of the man known as the “Little Dragon,” who may well have been the greatest fighter of the 20th century.

Mary Decker's clash with Zola Budd at the 1984 Los Angeles Games is one of the biggest and most controversial events in Olympic history. In a head-to-head that gripped the imagination of the world, the 3000 metres race pitted the experienced and glamourous world champion from the host nation against a prodigious, teenage waif from South Africa wearing a hastily-organised British flag on her vest and, memorably, no shoes on her feet.
Disastrously, a mid-race collision saw Decker tumble to the inside of the track after her legs tangled with Budd's as the 18-year-old overtook the American in a battle for pole position. Distraught and unable to carry on, the tearful Decker watched in frustration as Maricica Puica of Romania stormed to gold while Budd, who was heavily booed by the partisan crowd in the closing stages, faded to seventh. Using the famous Olympic moment as its focal point, Collision Course tells the story of two of the best-known and greatest athletes of al ltime, analyses their place in history as pioneers of women's sport, and lifts the lid on two lives that have been filled with sporting and political intrigue that, until now, has never been fully told.
