  Ian Lancaster Fleming (May 28, 1908 to August 12, 1964) was an English writer, best known for his James Bond series of spy novels, and his only children's novel, Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang. Fleming came from a wealthy family connected to the merchant bank Robert Fleming & Co., and his father was the Member of Parliament (MP) from 1910 until his death on the Western Front in 1917. Fleming himself was heavily involved in British intelligence during World War II. Raymond Thornton Chandler (July 23, 1888 to March 26, 1959) was an American novelist and screenwriter. His first novel, The Big Sleep, was published in 1939. All but one of his eight novels have been made into motion pictures. Chandler had an immense stylistic influence on American popular literature, including pioneering the hardboiled school of detective fiction. The protagonist of his novels, Philip Marlowe, is considered by some to be synonymous with "private detective." The following recording is from the late 1950s.

  Rudolf Franz Ferdinand Hoess was a Nazi German SS-officer who was found guilty of war criminal activities after Nazi Germany was beat. Höss was the commandant of Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp for the longest time (from four May 1940 to November 1943, and again from eight May 1944 to January the 18th 1945). He tried out and executed techniques to accelerate Hitler's directive to get rid of the Jewish population of Nazi-occupied Europe.

  Yuri Bezmenov (1939 - January 5, 1993), was a Soviet journalist for RIA Novosti and a former KGB informant who defected to Canada. After being assigned to a station in India, Bezmenov eventually grew to love the people and the culture of India. At the same time, he began to resent the KGB-sanctioned repression of intellectuals who dissented from Moscow's policies and he decided to defect to the West. Bezmenov is best remembered for his anti-communist lectures and books published in the 1980s under the alias of Tomas David Schuman.

  The Inevitable Revolution is an essay about abolishing the law of violence and replacing it with the law of love. It is a text on civil disobedience, pacifism, and anarchism, and it is Tolstoy's last non-fiction work detailing his final opinions on political, economic, and religious issues.
  
  In it, he criticizes prisons, parliaments, wars, conscription, capitalism, theft, revolutionary violence, and taxes, and praises Christianity's message of love as the solution to these problems; although he also recognizes the law of love in other religions. Tolstoy asked people not to directly commit any violence, not to take part in violence, and not to approve of violence.

  Black Country Music tells the story of how Black musicians have changed the country music landscape and brought light to Black creativity and innovation. 
  After a century of racist whitewashing, country music is finally reckoning with its relationship to Black people. In this timely work—the first book on Black country music by a Black writer—Francesca Royster uncovers the Black performers and fans, including herself, who are exploring the pleasures and possibilities of the genre. 
   
  Informed by queer theory and Black feminist scholarship, Royster’s book elucidates the roots of the current moment found in records like Tina Turner’s first solo album, Tina Turns the Country On! She reckons with Black “bros” Charley Pride and Darius Rucker, then chases ghosts into the future with Valerie June. Indeed, it is the imagination of Royster and her artists that make this music so exciting for a genre that has long been obsessed with the past. The futures conjured by June and others can be melancholy, and are not free of racism, but by centering Black folk Royster begins to understand what her daughter hears in the banjo music of Our Native Daughters and the trap beat of Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road.” A Black person claiming country music may still feel a bit like a queer person coming out, but, collectively, Black artists and fans are changing what country music looks and sounds like—and who gets to love it.
