Summary

When disaster strikes, the last place you want to be is stuck in a line at the corner grocery. Having a backup food supply – or what doomsday preppers would call a survival or disaster pantry – is essential if you want to live through a disaster and its aftermath.
What are Short Term Emergency Foods?
There are long term emergency foods and there are short term emergency foods. Long term emergency foods are those that have long shelf lives and will sustain you indefinitely. These are the food items that can stay shelf-stable for a long time. Foods marketed as long term emergency foods usually come in big cans or packs and may not resemble the food that you eat on a regular basis.
Short term emergency foods, meanwhile, don’t last as long but will still keep you nourished while you ride out the worst of the disaster. These may include food items that you normally eat and/or favorite foods, i.e. food items that aren’t necessarily long-lasting or particularly nutritious but are important because you and your family enjoy eating them.

Dear Big Sister friend, If you are waiting for the birth of your younger sister, or you have a younger sister and you want to know how to deal with it, this book is for you... When the mother says: The little sister is a precious gift, she means it is a gift for YOU... not a gift to give to your friend at the earliest birthday party ... My advice is: Bear your little sister from birth until she becomes a cute lady, because then, you will be forced to bear her for the rest of your life, and forever... Your little sister will wear your clothes and shoes, play with your toys, rip your magazines and books, lose your tools, pens, and books... But you will forget it all when you look at your photo together while she embraces your waist smiling in cuteness. Or, when you wake up at night, finding her sleeping right next to you, and will often hug you with one of her limbs... Do not be surprised when you wake up in one morning finding her toes in your mouth.

A gorgeous love letter to our most revered cookware-copper pots, cast-iron skillets, and classic stoneware—and the artistry and workmanship behind them, written by an expert craftsperson, perhaps the only woman coppersmith in America.
Today, most people are concerned about eating seasonal, organic, and local food. But we don't think about how the choices we make about our pots, pans, and bowls can also enhance our meals and our lives. Sara Dahmen believes understanding the origins of the cookware we use to make our food is just as essential. Copper, Iron, and Clay, is a beautiful photographic history of our cooking tools and their fundamental uses in the modern kitchen, accompanied by recipes that showcase the best features of various cooking materials.
Interested in history and traditional pioneer kitchens, early cooking methods, and original metals used in pots during the early years of America, Sara became obsessed with the crafts of copper—and tin-smithing for kitchenware-specialty trades that are nearly extinct in the United States today. She embarked on a journey to locate artisans nationwide familiar with the old ways who could teach and inspire her. She began making her own cookware not only to connect with the artisanal traditions of our nation's past, but to adopt the pioneer kitchen to cook and eat healthier today. Why cook fantastic, healthful food in a cheap pan coated with toxic chemicals and inorganic elements? she asks. If you buy one high-quality item made from natural materials, it can serve your family for generations.
Copper, Iron, and Clay showcases each material, exploring its fascinating history, fundamental science—including which elements work best for various cooking methods—and its practical uses today. It also features fascinating interviews with industry insiders, including cookware artisans, chefs, entrepreneurs, and manufacturers from around the world. In addition, Sara provides recipes from her own kitchen and some of her famous chef friends, as well as a few historical favorites—all which are optimized for particular kinds of cookware.

Parenting a puppy is hard. Parenting a puppy in an apartment is even harder.

No shoving the pup out the doggie door at three in the morning when it needs to go out. No letting the puppy bark itself out when it decides to throw a fit. No sipping your latte while watching the puppy run around the backyard and get its exercise.

Parenting a puppy when you live in an apartment is a very hands-on experience. A rewarding one, no doubt about it, but one with its own set of unique challenges.

Puppy Parenting in an Apartment brings you some lessons from the trenches from an author who has been there, done that herself. A valuable guide for prospective or new puppy parents.
