Summary

'A tremendous book – oracular, clear, vital. It will shift the ground under every reader of it' Ali Smith

A radical reframing of Russia's war on Ukraine

'Apocalypse Baroque bears witness to a country on fire and a culture that fights against erasure. Crossing Ukraine in trains and volunteer cars, I have collected testimonies of everyday defiance that has surprised the world and, at times, Ukrainians themselves. A suitable language for relaying the atrocities we endure does not exist. I accept it, alongside the need to reach for a universal dimension in the singular horror of each act of Russian aggression. When reaching for the universal, one often taps into folklore. And once in the realm of folklore, one can read the old stories in a new way and make the reading emancipatory. In the sixteen tales that comprise this book, we meet characters from myth and legend next to my contemporaries and fellow citizens, united in a fightfor justice.' Sasha Dovzhyk

"We are such stuff as dreams are made on."

Transport yourself to a remote, enchanted island in William Shakespeare's final masterpiece, The Tempest. Prospero, the usurped Duke of Milan, has spent twelve years in exile, mastering the occult arts and commanding the spirits of the isle. When a magical storm brings his treacherous enemies to his shores, Prospero finally has the chance to settle the score.

The play is a breathtaking blend of spectacle and soul-searching. Guided by the ethereal spirit Ariel and hindered by the earthy, resentful Caliban, Prospero orchestrates a series of illusions to confront his brother's betrayal. Yet, amid the schemes of revenge, a tender romance blossoms between his daughter, Miranda, and the shipwrecked Prince Ferdinand.

A profound meditation on the nature of authority, the bond of family, and the power of mercy, The Tempest is often seen as Shakespeare's farewell to the stage. This definitive edition captures the play's unique atmospheric beauty and its timeless message of reconciliation.

Surrender to the magic of the isle. Buy "The Tempest" today and experience the Bard's final, visionary work.

What happened to the American Dream? In A Love Letter to Suburbia, Diane Alisa takes readers on a compelling journey through the rise of suburbia and its consequences on American life. With heartfelt reflections and practical insights, Diane confronts the disillusionment many feel living in suburban sprawl. She explores how car dependency, corporate control, and disintegrating community values have eroded the sense of connection and purpose that once defined American neighborhoods.
But this is not a story of defeat. Diane offers a bold vision for restoring the “American Village”—a revitalized, walkable, community-focused way of living. Drawing on historical examples and modern urbanism, she presents actionable steps for turning car-centric infrastructure into vibrant, self-sustaining communities where families can thrive. A Love Letter to Suburbia is more than a critique; it is a hopeful roadmap for reclaiming the essence of the American Dream.
Will America restore its villages and rekindle a shared cultural identity—or will the suburbs continue to spread isolation?

The eight tales Perrault published in 1697 and thereby fixed for Europe: the sleeping beauty, little red riding hood, bluebeard, puss in boots, the fairies, cinderella, ricky of the tuft and hop o' my thumb. He was a senior civil servant and a leader of the moderns in the great literary quarrel; the tales were an argument in it. Each ends in a verse moral, and several of the morals are jokes. Fifty-nine plates of country fairs, gleaners and candlelit interiors by painters from Adam de Coster to Millet carry the peasant world the tales were drawn from.
