Summary

Indian clubs', or 'Iranian clubs' belong to a category of exercise equipment used for developing strength, and in juggling. In appearance, they resemble elongated bowling-pins, and are commonly made out of wood. They come in all shapes and sizes however, ranging from a few pounds each, to fifty pounds, and are commonly swung in certain patterns as part of exercise programs. They were often used in class formats, predominantly in Iran, where members would perform choreographed routines, led by an instructor; remarkably similar to modern aerobics classes.
This work is a reprint of a classic publication on the use of 'Indian Clubs' and along with a brand new introduction, includes a series of exercises to help you get in shape the old-fashioned way.

Liverpool FC is one of the most successful clubs in the world and has won more European trophies than any other English team with six European Cups, three UEFA cups and four Super Cups.
The club has also won 19 league titles, seven FA Cups and a record eight League Cups. But the trophies tell only half the story. The club has arguably the most passionate fans in the world and their anthem "You'll Never Walk Alone" has helped carry the team through the good times and the bad particularly following the 1989 Hillsborough disaster when 96 supporters were crushed to death.
Founded in 1892, the club has played at Anfield in all that time, and enjoyed its most successful period in the 1970s and 1980s when Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley led the club to eleven league titles and seven European trophies.
This fully-illustrated gift book looks back at all the greatest moments that have shaped the history of the Merseyside club and pays tribute to the great players from the past such as Kevin Keegan, Ian Rush, Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard to the modern superstars including Virgil Van Dijk, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mo Salah who are on their way to becoming legends under the charismatic managership of Jurgen Klopp.

While cricket remains a national game today, at the beginning of the Twentieth Century, it was THE national game. Cricketers were the sporting icons of their age, as footballers are today. When the call to arms was made in 1914 and the years of war that followed, it was answered in droves by young men including Test and First Class cricketers. The machine guns and gas of the Western Front and other theatres did not discriminate and many hundreds of these star performers perished alongside their lesser known comrades. The author has researched the lives and deaths of over 200 top class cricketers who made the ultimate sacrifice. He includes not just British players but those from the Empire. The enormity of the horror and wholesale loss of life during The Great War is well demonstrated by these moving biographies.

In 1959, sixteen-year-old Ian 'Spike' Sykes left school and, after a short period of work at Leeds University, joined the RAF. Already a keen climber, he signed up on the promise of excitement and adventure and was posted to the remote RAF Kinloss Mountain Rescue Team in the north of Scotland. It was the beginning of a journey which would see him involved in some of the most legendary call-outs in Scottish mountain rescue history, including the 1963 New Year tragedy on the Isle of Skye. In the Shadow of Ben Nevis tells Spike's story from growing up in Leeds in the aftermath of the Second World War, to his time with the RAF during the cold war. After leaving the RAF, he remained an active member of the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team and was involved in the first lower down the north face of Ben Nevis - an epic 1,500-foot descent to rescue stricken climbers in the middle of winter. Following a two-and-a-half-year stint on Antarctica with the British Antarctic Survey, he returned to the Highlands and opened the first Nevisport shop with his close friend Ian 'Suds' Sutherland. Together, they brought Sunday trading to Fort William and were one of a small number of shops to revolutionise outdoor retail in the UK. Later, he was a key player in the development of the Nevis Range ski area. Over many years, and against all odds, the project became a reality and a great success. Recounted within these pages are a great many lively tales of adventures and mishaps, told with immediacy and charm. With a foreword by legendary Scottish mountaineer Hamish MacInnes, a close friend of Spike's, In the Shadow of Ben Nevis is a must-read for anyone with an interest in Scottish mountaineering and mountain rescue.
