Sinopse

The "Diary of Samuel Pepys — Complete 1666 N.S" is a remarkable firsthand account of life during a pivotal period in British history, chronicling the tumultuous events of the Great Fire of London and the Second Dutch War. Written in a candid, conversational style, Pepys's diary reveals not just the unfolding historical narrative but also his personal reflections, social observations, and engagements with the political landscape. Pepys's keen attention to detail and his ability to convey the immediacy of his experiences echo the emerging modern sensibilities of the 17th century, offering readers insights not only into his own psyche but also into the intricacies of Restoration society and its cultural milieu. This particular volume captures the essence of a year marked by disaster and resilience, serving as a rich historical document that complements academic inquiries into this transformative era. Samuel Pepys, a London-based civil servant and naval administrator, is renowned for his insightful commentary and meticulous record-keeping. His experiences navigating the cataclysmic events of 1666—including the Great Fire, which devastated the city—provide a backdrop for the development of his thoughts on governance, society, and the human condition. Pepys's diary is not only a historical artifact but also a reflection of his ambitions and personal challenges, underscoring the duality of public duty and private life. This edition is essential for readers fascinated by history, literature, and the evolution of personal narrative. Pepys's eloquent prose and vivid descriptions invite readers to immerse themselves in the daily realities of 17th-century England. For historians, literary scholars, and anyone intrigued by the intersection of personal experience and historical context, Pepys's diary presents a compelling portrait of resilience and the human spirit amidst the chaos of change.

From approximately 3100 BCE until around 1075 BCE, ancient Egypt was ruled by 20 different dynasties. The length of the dynasties varied: some, such as those during the First and Second Intermediate periods could be quite short, while the Thirteenth and 18th Dynasties each contained more a one dozen kings and ruled over the Nile Valley for around 200 years each. Although the first 20 Egyptian dynasties varied in number of rulers and length, most shared one important attribute: they were all native Egyptian dynasties. The one important exception came during Egypt’s Second Intermediate Period, when a mysterious foreign group of people, known as the Hyksos, conquered Egypt and established the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Dynasties some time shortly after 1700 BCE. For centuries, the Hyksos rule over Egypt was an enigma shrouded in half-truths and myth. It was only in the mid-20th century that Egyptologists, using newly discovered and translated texts, shed fresh light on the Hyksos to reveal details about their origins and rule in Egypt.
The transition from the Bronze to the Iron Age during the late 13th and early 12th centuries BCE arguably changed the structure and course of world history more fundamentally than any period before or since. During this period, numerous wealthy and enduring kingdoms of the eastern Mediterranean Sea region collapsed, and new ones rose in their places. At the center of this period of turmoil was a group of people known today as the Sea Peoples, the English translation of the name given to them by the Egyptians. Despite their prominent role in history, however, the Sea Peoples remain as mysterious as they were influential; while the Egyptians documented their presence and the wars against them, it has never been clear exactly where the Sea Peoples originated from, or what compelled them to invade various parts of the region with massive numbers.

Starting from the two iconic dates of 753 BC (according to legend, the founding of Rome) and 476 AD (the deposition of the last Western Roman emperor Romulus Augustulus), the history of the Roman Empire spans more than 1200 years. This was not only a long period of time, but also an eventful one - after all, the inhabitants of the city on the Tiber River conquered an empire that, at its greatest expansion in 116 AD, encompassed most of Europe as well as parts of North Africa and Asia Minor.
It would not be difficult to fill hundreds of pages with names and dates from the history of the Roman Empire, and of course such comprehensive accounts already exist.
But don't worry, that's not what awaits you here. This book will give you an entertaining introduction to the history of the Roman Empire. You will find here only the information you need to understand why the 1200-year development took place as the sources tell us. And because incontrovertible facts are often sparser than one would expect or wish, you will also learn what we don't know (anymore) today and why that is so.

    This book contains these titles:
    - The Rise of Social Media: The rise of social media has reshaped the way people connect, communicate, and consume information. Over the past two decades, digital platforms have evolved from niche online communities to global networks that influence nearly every aspect of modern life. Social media is no longer just a tool for staying in touch with friends and family—it has become a powerful force in politics, business, entertainment, and culture. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, understanding the impact of these platforms is essential.
    - The Rise of Remote Work: The COVID-19 pandemic marked a turning point in how the world approaches work. Overnight, offices across the globe emptied as organizations scrambled to adapt to a new reality: remote work. What began as an emergency measure to ensure continuity during a global crisis evolved into a massive experiment that reshaped traditional workplace norms. For many, the home became an office, kitchen tables transformed into desks, and digital platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams replaced conference rooms.
    - The Fall of the Berlin Wall: The Berlin Wall stands as one of the most defining symbols of the Cold War, a stark reminder of the ideological divide that shaped global politics in the second half of the 20th century. For nearly three decades, it separated families, friends, and a nation, embodying the tension between the communist East and the capitalist West. Its fall on November 9, 1989, marked the beginning of the end of the Cold War and set the stage for German reunification, forever altering the political landscape of Europe and the world.

Every person experiences emotions; it's one of life's most natural aspects. Unfortunately, not everyone is capable of dealing with these intense feelings effectively. And, when you’ve been raised by emotionally immature parents who don’t allow you to be an individual who can express their feelings, you will be set up for failed (and sometimes even abusive) relationships in the future.
As children, our number one role models are our parents; we give them unconditional trust to guide us through the world. But when the trust is broken, and their behavior and temperament toward us are less than ideal, we can develop coping mechanisms in a bid to shield ourselves from the hurt. If your parent starved you emotionally, then you have a pretty clear picture of what this means – but it doesn't have to remain this way.
In her original, Dr. Lindsay Gibson discusses this phenomenon, the effect that the poor emotional development of parents can have on their children’s lives, and practical steps you can take to break free from this cycle.
With this summary, you will:Understand in depth the effect that emotionally immature parents have on the adult lives of their children.Gain insight into how your parents' emotional immaturity has shaped your emotional landscape, and identify the subsequent effects.Explore the personality traits associated with emotional immaturity to be able to identify it in others and avoid falling trap to their actions.Learn the steps you can take to wake up from the effects of emotional immaturity to experience the liberation you long for.Learn how to build solid, lasting relationships filled with the emotional intimacy that you desire. And more!
But there's only one rule – don't be afraid to dig deep and feel. Facing the resurfacing emotions of your past may be uncomfortable, to say the least, but it is an essential part of the process.
