As a mother, a wife, and a businesswoman, Kaia Roman always had a plan. But when her biggest plan, the business she co-founded, collapsed, Kaia found herself crushed by depression. And what felt even worse was that, with a husband and two kids relying on her, she didn't have a plan to move forward.
Determined to turn her life around and put her ingrained habits of stress and anxiety behind her, Kaia decided to put everything else on hold and dedicate thirty days to the singular pursuit of joy. The results were astonishing--and lasted much longer than the initial month-long project.
In this uplifting and eye-opening memoir, Kaia uses her business savvy to create a month-long Joy Plan to get back on her feet fast. Using scientific research on hormones, neurotransmitters, and mindfulness, along with the daily dedication to creating a more joyful existence, Kaia teaches readers how to go beyond temporary happiness and succeed in creating joy that lasts.

The true story behind the real “Great Escape” from a World War II Nazi POW camp by the veteran Norwegian pilot who lived it.   Jens Müller was one of only three men who successfully escaped from Stalag Luft III (now in Poland) in March, 1944—the break that later became the basis for the famous film The Great Escape. Together with Per Bergsland, another Norwegian POW, he stowed away on a ship to Gothenburg, Sweden. The escapees sought out the British consulate and were flown from Stockholm to Scotland. From there they were sent by train to London and shortly afterwards to “Little Norway” in Canada.    Müller’s book about his wartime experiences was first published in Norwegian in 1946 titled Tre kom Tilbake (Three Came Back). This new edition is the first English translation and will correct the impression—set by the film—that the men who escaped successfully were American and Australian. In a vivid informative memoir, Müller details what life in the camp was like and how the escapes were planned and executed, and tells the story of his personal breakout and success reaching RAF Leuchars in Scotland.  “The Great Escape from Stalag Luft III offers a fascinating look at the 1940s, recapturing the feel of both the war and postwar era.” —The Daily News

The stories in this here anthology may in fact be true wild tales I've absorbed over time. Perhaps drenched with generous hyperbole? I'll let you decide. As one of the founding members of the seminal punk band Angry Samoans, Gregg Turner has seen his fair share of weird shit. From his time at Creem Magazine in the 1970s and '80s to the formation of the Angry Samoans in Los Angeles, and all the travels, trials, and tribulations that occurred after, Turner takes us through a wild ride of stories he's heard, stories he's lived, and some he may or may not have made up.Hallucinations from Hell is an onslaught of a book that will appeal to any listener who loves a good story.

    Defying Decrepitude

One of our most distinguished economists, Sir Alan Peacock, also happens to be a nonagenarian.
As an academic and former civil servant, Peacock is well-situated to analyse the costs and benefits of retirement and the courses of action that we can take in anticipation of a lengthening lifespan.
In trying to make sense of old age by writing of his later life and memoirs, he explores the Maxims of Francois, Duc de La Rochefoucauld, and views life's later stages and travails with a wry and clear-eyed detachment. Unafraid to grasp the realities of the decline of physical independence, he steers us through medical practice, bureaucracy and "healthspeak" as well as loss and bereavement.
His often light-hearted anecdotes reveal a serious point; that the ageing are assuming a growing responsibility for the aged. Opting to defy decrepitude seems the only sensible course of action.

Nicknamed "The Squirrel" for his elusiveness, Thrasher was a daredevil pilot who made millions flying marijuana and cocaine from South America into the US in the 70s and 80s. With his beautiful Portuguese-born wife, Olga, he lived in a mountain estate near Virginia's New River Valley. He owned oceanfront homes and yachts in Florida, spent weekends in the Caribbean, and laundered money in Las Vegas, where he partied with Frank Sinatra's entourage. The Feds were hot on his tail in 1984 when word came that he had died in a plane crash in Belize, his body burnt to ashes. But investigators soon learned the crash was staged and the death certificate fake. Meanwhile, Olga became a federal informant assisting the DEA in an audacious undercover sting to infiltrate the highest levels of his smuggling ring. Thirteen international traffickers were indicted, including Bolivian drug lord Roberto Suarez-Gomez, known as the world's "King of Cocaine."But Wally Thrasher was never caught. Authorities believe he has spent the past four decades living in some faraway tropical land. He was recently profiled on America's Most Wanted as US Marshals chased leads around the globe in his pursuit.
