A rash of mysterious murder-suicides in Taos, New Mexico, leads local police to an investigation of a supernatural sound driving innocent people to kill.   A Hum is terrorizing the small town of Taos, New Mexico. Those who hear the droning vibration go insane, killing others in a fit of rage before turning their hatred on themselves and committing suicide. Stumped, the town sheriff and deputy call on the state’s foremost Audiologist, hoping to discover some rational explanation. But it soon becomes apparent to all involved in the investigation that the Hum is beyond the scope of science. Was it a paranormal force or some kind of divine retribution? The only thing clear is that as long as the Hum persists, no one is safe.

Early Works of HP Lovecraft The...

    H.P. Lovecraft, Mike Manz

It's a well known fact that H.P. Lovecraft was a horribly racist man, and that some of his earliest stories reflect that particular worldview. This can make it awkward for those who would like to read his work and see what all the fuss is about but don't want to have to wade through the putrid swamp of his views on people of color and immigrants.
In response to this issue, I have put together this collection of the H.P. Lovecraft short stories written between 1917 and 1923, but with the omission of the really racist ones (there are still one or two lines in one or two of the stories included here that might raise the odd eyebrow, but nothing overtly racist). You may now peruse the works of the master of weird fiction without fear that you'll have to deal with his opinions of the master race, and that's a good thing. Lovecraft was a racist douchebag, but he was also a visionary writer of amazingly creative and breathtaking stories without which entire genres of fiction would not exist, and on that score the literary world owes him a debt of gratitude.
In this audio book version I will read you the stories as suspensefully and creepily they deserve to be read. For best results, listen on a good set of headphones. In the dark. Under a blanket. Just don't expect to get much sleep.
Come see (hear) what all the fuss is about.

Inspired by a true story, this supernatural thriller for fans of horror and true crime follows a tale as it evolves every 20 years — with terrifying results.

Ella Louise has lived in the woods surrounding Pilot's Creek, Virginia, for nearly a decade. Publicly, she and her daughter Jessica are shunned by their upper-crust family and the Pilot's Creek residents. Privately, desperate townspeople visit her apothecary for a cure to what ails them — until Ella Louise is blamed for the death of a prominent customer. Accused of witchcraft, both mother and daughter are burned at the stake in the middle of the night. Ella Louise's burial site is never found, but the little girl has the most famous grave in the South: a steel-reinforced coffin surrounded by a fence of interconnected white crosses.

Their story will take the shape of an urban legend as it's told around a campfire by a man forever marked by his boyhood encounters with Jessica. Decades later, a boy at that campfire will cast Amber Pendleton as Jessica in a '70s horror movie inspired by the Witch Girl of Pilot's Creek. Amber's experiences on that set and its meta-remake in the '90s will ripple through pop culture, ruining her life and career after she becomes the target of a witch hunt.

Amber's best chance to break the cycle of horror comes when a true-crime investigator tracks her down to interview her for his popular podcast. But will this final act of storytelling redeem her — or will it bring the story full circle, ready to be told once again? And again. And again....

To make her films, Eva must take out her eyes and use them as batteries. To make her art, Finn must cut open her chest and remove her lungs and heart. To write her novels, Grace must use her blood to power the word processor.

Suture shares three interweaving stories of artists tearing themselves open to make art. Each artist baffles their family, or harms their loved ones, with their necessary sacrifices. Eva’s wife worries about her mental health; Finn’s teenager follows in her footsteps, using forearm bones for drumsticks; Grace’s network constantly worries about the prolific writer's penchant for self-harm, and the over-use of her vitals for art.

The result is a hyper-real exploration of the cruelties we commit and forgive in ourselves and others. Brewer brings a unique perspective to mental illness while exploring how support systems in relationships—spousal, parental, familial—can be both helpful and damaging.

This exciting debut novel is a highly original meditation on the fractures within us, and the importance of empathy as medicine and glue.
