Summary

The River Thames is an often undiscovered haven of stunning scenery, wonderful wildlife and brilliant natural beauty. As well as the famous stretches passing through our biggest cities and towns, there is a hidden side to the river - wild and natural, but surprisingly accessible. This guidebook, compiled by the two major Thames charities, contains a wealth of information on over 150 of the best places to explore the real Thames wilderness, along with enjoyable walks and activities along its course.

Organised geographically, the book gives information on the history and character of each stretch of the river and the featured sites within it, travelling from source to sea. Illustrated with maps and photos, the text highlights which plants and wildlife to watch out for, activities you can do, how to get there and nearby moorings, cycle paths and car parks. Each section features a circular walk, tying together several of the sites and accompanied by an enchanting hand-drawn map.

An essential source of ideas for days out and handy for on the go, Exploring the Thames Wilderness opens up the beauty of the Thames to everyone.

Growing up, Muggsy Bogues was always told he should do something else, anything besides basketball. He never acknowledged his many doubters except to prove them spectacularly wrong. Twenty years after receiving his first basketball as a toddler, he stood proud—at five-foot-three—as the starting point guard for the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA. From the East Baltimore playground courts where he earned his nickname by muggin' opponents for possession of the ball to Dunbar High School where he excelled alongside future NBA players, Bogues set the tone in his early years for the great heights he'd reach professionally. In this new autobiography, Bogues delves deep into his life and career, reflecting on legendary battles with Michael Jordan, John Stockton, and other generational stars of ’80s and ’90s hoops. He shares far-ranging anecdotes from playoff runs in Charlotte, filming Space Jam, and even watching a young Steph Curry grow up. Conversational and clear-sighted, this is a story of uncompromising vision and fleet-footed determination during a golden era for the NBA.

“How To Do Jiu Jitsu For Beginners” is oriented toward teaching basic jiu-jitsu techniques for self-defense. The book shows the user how to control stand up aspects of a fight as well as ground aspects. Over 200 photos are combined with step-by-step instructions to illustrate effective application of jiu-jitsu moves.
From a standing perspective, the e-book will explain how to keep the distance in a fight as well as what type of takedowns an attacker may employ.
The jiu-jitsu text is broken down into the 7 distinct sections below:
    1. Takedowns, takedown defense, and movement – this will relay movement, some basic takedowns, and how to defend against them.
    2. Standing in guard – this will detail basic defense against an opponent who pushes or knocks you to the ground yet stays standing.
    3. Escapes – this will show how to move from a submissive position to a dominant position on the ground by using basic escapes.
    4. Sweeps – similar to the Escapes section, this will detail how to move from a submissive position to a dominant position using basic sweeps.
    5. Attacks from guard – closed guard is one of the greatest defensive and offensive positions for a person on their back. This section will offer a few key attacks and chains for defending off your back.
    6. Attacks from mount – this will show you how to control and attack from the top mount once you have achieved it.
    7. Putting it together – this section will show you how to chain some of these movements together.

West Ham fans will tell you that the way you play is as important as what you achieve. There are many different styles of play, but United have always had a style that is unique. It is the style best epitomised by the likes of Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters, the trio of players that proved the foundation for both success for both club and country. That legacy has sometimes proved difficult to maintain, but recent players such as Paolo Di Cannio, Scott Parker and Mark Noble, to name but three, have given the club and fans glimpses of the West Ham way. Completely revised and updated, this book provides a unique insight into what makes West Ham United a special club. It is the perfect guide for any United fan.

Brilliant, witty, perceptive essays about fly-fishing, the natural world, and life in general by the acknowledged master of fishing writers
With his inimitable combination of wit and wisdom, John Gierach once again celebrates the fly-fishing life in Standing in a River Waving a Stick and notes its benefits as a sport, philosophical pursuit, even therapy: "The solution to any problem—work, love, money, whatever—is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be." After all, fly-fishing does teach important life lessons, says Gierach—about solitude, patience, perspective, humor, and the sublime coffee break.
Recounting both memorable fishing spots and memorable fish, Gierach discusses what makes a good fly pattern, the ethics of writing about undiscovered trout waters, the dread of getting skunked, and the camaraderie of fellow fishermen who can end almost any conversation with "Well, it's sort of like fishing, isn't it?" Reflecting on a lifetime of lessons learned at the end of a fly rod, Gierach concludes, "The one inscription you don't want carved on your tombstone is 'The Poor Son of a Bitch Didn't Fish Enough.'" Fortunately for Gierach fans, this is not likely to happen.
