Summary

BEWARE! The survival and prepping industry is full of bad advice, myths, and confusion.
Do you have a shelf full of canned goods but don't know what else you need? Have you been prepping for years but feel like you are missing something? You are not alone! Modern families have realized they are not prepared to survive for even two weeks without scrambling for supplies, let alone endure the chaos of a social/economic collapse.
Applauded Retreat Consultant, Richard McGrath, overcomes the largest obstacle in prepping (utter confusion!) with his layered approach and simple, conversational explanations. Hired to see inside private homes and refine emergency stockpiles, he gives valuable insight into what most people do WRONG! By answering the most common questions, he helps you get it right the first time, or resolve mistakes you've already made.
Beginning and veteran preppers alike appreciate the clarity in this must-have guide.
·       McGrath dispels rampant myths found in many prepping resources - Did you know peanut butter goes bad relatively quickly and is NOT a good item for long term food storage?
·       He takes the mystery out of the elusive Bug-Out-Bag concept.
·       As an accomplished gunsmith, he approaches the complex and controversial subject of firearms by narrowing down the choices to just a few recommendations.
·       He covers basic needs such as shelter, water, and supplies, as well as less-understood subjects that are commonly forgotten in survivalist resources.
Being prepared for an unforeseen disaster of one extreme or another is always a responsible choice. Prepping Like a Pro gives a complete foundation to this debated topic. Presented in a non-technical, common-sense fashion, it takes the guesswork, confusion, and chaos out of the process.
If you want a solid roadmap to self-reliance, you've found it!

An informative springboard from which to dive deep into the rich and illustrious heritage of the county steeped in the legend of King Arthur.

Every inch of legendary Somerset is imbued with history, from the towns of Dunster and Taunton in the west, to those of Shepton Mallet and Frome in the east; while also contained within its county boundaries are the cities of Bath and Wells and the mystical and magical Isle of Avalon: Glastonbury.

The county, located in southwest England and part of the Ancient Kingdom of Wessex, has played a significant role in many of the nation’s most formative events. These include the Roman occupation, Alfred the Great’s rise to power, the English Civil War and the Monmouth Rebellion.

And all this epoch-making activity has been played out against a landscape of dramatic and breathtaking beauty, from vast tracts of land such as Exmoor, hill ranges such as Mendip and Blackdown and an abundance of incredible rivers, lakes and streams; many situated within the famous Somerset Levels.

Wordsworth, Coleridge and Austen, among many others, have immortalized the county in literature, while everyone from the Celts, Cavaliers and Saxons, to the Roundheads, Romans and rebels have fought over its sought-after resources.

The authors, both living in Somerset, guide you on a fascinating and illuminating trip into the past of this most historical and legendary of counties, which boasts among its attractions the last battle fought upon English soil, the scene of the Bloody Assizes and the final resting place of King Arthur.

    My Grandma's Vintage Recipes -...

A vintage recipe is obviously something from at least a few decades in the past, if not longer. But I feel a vintage recipe also needs to show the character of the time in which it was written. The recipes presented in this collection came from my Grandma’s school notebook that she began when she was 15 years old. She grew up in Chatham, Ontario, Canada, and her recipes reflect the food eaten at that time and place.
Regain the wisdom and creativity of our ancestors who were experts at whipping up something special with tight budgets and limited supplies. You may not be able to find the “10-cent bag of marshmallows” anymore, but modern cooks can still benefit from this collection of 1920s vintage recipes collected by my late Grandmother. In 2012 I discovered her handwritten recipe notebook from 1926 and developed this cookbook.
While updating the directions for modern cooks, I maintained the vintage charm of her original notes. Generations ago people did not have a bunch of fancy ingredients, but they still came up with a variety of yummy quick breads, cakes, desserts, pies, salads, main dishes, canning recipes, and fruitcakes. This cookbook has a special emphasis on fruitcakes. I share my mood-altering experiences with her fruitcake recipes. Bakers who love the holidays should definitely add a classic Christmas fruitcake to their list. All jokes aside, fruitcake deserves a place among elite holiday desserts.
And people into urban farming and homesteading can harvest delicious value from these vintage recipes meant to use up all the dried fruit and nuts you can pick. Plus find a variety of classic uses for all the tomatoes, cucumbers, and apples you can grow with marvelous canning recipes for sauces, pickles, and chutneys.
