How can 160,000 deaths in one day constitute a 'medium-sized operation'? Think beef is killing the world? What about asparagus farms? Or golf? Going vegan might be all the rage, but the fact is the world has an ever-growing, insatiable appetite for meat—especially cheap meat.
Former food critic and chef, now farmer and restaurateur Matthew Evans grapples with the thorny issues around the ways we produce and consume animals. From feedlots and abattoirs to organic farms and animal welfare agencies, he has an intimate, expert understanding of the farming practices that take place in our name. Evans calls for less radicalisation, for greater understanding, and for ethical omnivores to stand up for the welfare of animals and farmers alike.
Sure to spark intense debate, On Eating Meat is an urgent listen for all vegans, vegetarians and carnivores.

    Understanding Everything

What is the cosmos made of at its most fundamental level? Where does consciousness exist in the physical world? How does it fit into our understanding of evolution? What can you and I do to ensure the evolution of our species continues beyond the next generation? Ervin Laszlo has a mind as big as the cosmos, it seems, as his studies and writings address these questions and every aspect of the world as we know it. He was a child prodigy who gave more than sixty piano concerts a year, and in his late teens turned his genius to the study of physics, the cosmos, and consciousness. In this dialogue he talks about politics, economics, culture, consciousness, ecology, sustainability, and spirituality, all with the deftness of one who understands the unfolding of universes as well as the nature of particulate matter.
Ultimately, though, "all complexity is generated from simplicity," says, Laszlo. At the cutting edge of science we find evidence that "we are all connected. We are rediscovering at a deeper level our connections to each other, and these connections are based on energy and information. All of this has real roots now emerging from physics, the new cosmology, the new biology, and the new research on consciousness. That is the key, to discover that our sense of connection is not purely imaginary. It's not something to be dismissed. It is there. It is real. It is to be cultivated." (hosted by Michael Toms)

    1) Despite being one of PayPal’s original founders, a disagreement with its board members led Elon Musk to leave the company. As a result, he began his search for what his next startup company would be after PayPal.
    2) The fact that NASA had no plans for going to Mars compelled Musk to fill this gap in the aerospace world. He believed that for humanity to have a long-term future, it must expand to other worlds.

Your comprehensive and indispensable guide to operational British Railway stations—including facilities available—from A to Z.   Following nationalization in 1948, British Railways closed many branch lines and reduced the number of stations on the network. In January 1978, there were 2,358 and by January 2018 there were 2,560 stations on the network. The object of this book is to record those stations that are re-opened or are new stations to the system. The book gives: locations, facilities, chronology, statistics and passenger usage.   “This useful reference work describes all the 200 or so stations opened or re-opened over the last 70 years, with a recent photograph of each and listed alphabetically. Print quality is excellent.” —West Somerset Railway Association   “Authors Paul Smith and his stepdaughter Sally Salmon . . . have travelled widely to compile their Directory of British Railways and hunt down reopened stations, brand new stations, old stations which have been revived or reopened on adjacent sites, replacements, and private or non-timetabled stations which have become public stations.” —Express & Star
