    Charlie Watts June 2, 1941- August 24, 2021
    LIFE ON THE BACKBEAT

A TRIBUTE FROM THE AUTHOR OF 'PAINT IT BLACK THE MURDER OF BRIAN JONES'
AND 'THE ROLLING STONES ALBUM', SQUID GAME STAR & PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD WINNER GEOFFREY GIULIANO

"I wanted to play drums because I fell in love with the glitter and the lights, but it wasn't about adulation. It was being up there playing."

"I hate leaving home. I love what I do, but I'd love to go home every night."

"It's been years and years and years I've been playing the drums, and they're still a challenge."

"I never had lessons. Used to try to play to records, which I hated doing. Still can't play to them."
    Charlie Watts

Charlie Watts provided the foundation that underpinned the music of the Rolling Stones. The band became a by-word for rock 'n' roll excess but for Watts, playing with the Stones did not become the ego trip that drove Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. A jazz aficionado, Watts vied with Bill Wyman for the title of least charismatic member of the band; he eschewed the limelight and rarely gave interviews. And he famously described life with the Stones as five years of playing, 20 years of hanging around.

Charles Robert Watts was born on 2 June 1941 at the University College Hospital in London and was raised in Kingsbury, now part of the London Borough of Brent. His father was a lorry driver and Watts was brought up in a prefabricated house to which the family had moved after German bombs destroyed hundreds of houses in the area. A childhood friend once described how Watts had an early interest in jazz and recalled listening to 78s in Charlie's bedroom by artists such as Jelly Roll Morton and Charlie Parker.

If you're looking for the events that inspired the lyrics to all my songs? Those stories are in this book. If you're looking for what I did when I was younger? That's in here. What changed me, made me stop hating and hurting? It's all here. This is my story and I'm sticking to it. That's the one thing I have, the truth.

Volume three of Black Heart Fades Blue, a three-part memoir by the founder and frontman for one of punk rock's most notorious acts, Poison Idea.

In 1980, Jerry A. formed Poison Idea, a Portland-based punk band that gave voice to disaffected and disenfranchised youth for over thirty years. As happened to so many punk bands, Jerry A. and Poison Idea also went all in on drugs and drinking as they toured the country, spiraling out of control and blowing both the band and their lives apart.

Black Heart Fades Blue is not an apology or a nostalgic catalog of events, but a true reckoning with one's past and present. A memoir of a time and a place and a movement, as well as a deep conversation about the memories and moments we leave behind, Black Heart Fades Blue is a deep exploration of an unconventional life.

Discover the most audacious financial fraud in Middle Eastern history in this gripping true crime masterpiece.
In 1995, a mysterious man from Mali walked into Dubai Islamic Bank with a simple request: a car loan. Three years later, Fousseyni Babaani Sissoko had vanished with $242 million, leaving behind the greatest banking scandal the Arab world had ever witnessed.
This isn't just another fraud story—it's a tale that defies belief. How did a village sorcerer convince a sophisticated bank manager that he possessed supernatural powers to multiply money? Why did Mohammad Ayub authorize 183 transfers across three continents without question? And how did such astronomical sums disappear from one of the region's largest banks for years without detection?
From darkened rooms filled with incense and "genies" to Miami's luxury hotels and Swiss prisons, follow Sissoko's extraordinary journey from poverty to unimaginable wealth. Witness his transformation into a folk hero with private jets and his own airline, before his ultimate downfall and return to obscurity.
Drawing from court documents, FBI investigations, and exclusive interviews, this meticulously researched account exposes the vulnerabilities in global banking systems while exploring the psychology of deception, greed, and human gullibility.
A stunning exposé that reads like fiction but is frighteningly real—revealing how one man's audacious scheme shook the foundations of international finance.
Perfect for fans of true crime, financial thrillers, and stories of con artists who changed history.

In 1999, the American Film Institute released its list of the 50 greatest Hollywood stars of the 20th century, and selecting the best actresses out of the bunch was certainly a tall task. The competition was so stacked that women like Ginger Rogers, Grace Kelly and Rita Hayworth were not even among the Top 10. So who were the Top 5 women selected by the AFI?
Aside from being one of the most recognized and acclaimed actresses in history, Katharine Hepburn’s career is also of great importance because she forced Americans to reevaluate their expectations for female behavior, both in films themselves and off the movie set as well.
Bette Davis presided over Hollywood at a time in which the film industry was at its most influential. Every actress from Katharine Hepburn to Ingrid Bergman and Ginger Rodgers, themselves now considered among Hollywood’s greatest icons, lived in the shadow of Bette Davis.
For someone whose career ended over 30 years ago, Audrey Hepburn continues to retain her popularity and exert a strong influence over how people view beauty and sophistication. She remains an American icon, despite the fact that she did not even move to the United States until 1953 (at the age of 24) and spent the majority of her life living in Europe.
At times during her career, Bergman was the darling of Hollywood, but at other times she was literally a pariah. It is all too common to remember Bergman for her performance in Casablanca, forgetting the fact that she was effectively exiled from Hollywood for several years during her romance with Roberto Rossellini.
Of all the great movie stars, there may be none more enigmatic than Greta Garbo, who remains internationally famous despite the fact her life and career raise more questions than answers. How did a Swedish actress with very little film acting experience in her native land arrive in the United States and achieve instant stardom?
