Grab your seat next to a super fan who stopped at nothing to enter his generation's premier Chicago sports events.
This is your chance to experience the city's most memorable sports moments, from the two Bears’ Super Bowls, the White Sox pennant clincher in Anaheim and their World Series winner in Houston to the Blackhawks Game 7 disappointment in 1971 and the traumatic overtime win in Philadelphia for their first of three Cups. But it’s not just title thrills; you are also there for the dozens of ‘almosts’ that cloud the Second City’s grand sports tradition.
But more than a sports story, ROOT, ROOT, ROOT FOR THE HOME TEAMS draws from the personal experiences of a faithful fan. It is a tale of growing up a Chicago sports fan. It turns out there is more to sports than who wins and loses. A loving tale of a father who raised his sons to understand what sports teach us about family and what success in life really looks like.
Root Root Root is a love story of family, friends, and Chicago sports. For more than six decades, Tom Dobrez has been in the arena for hundreds of sporting events, along with his share of brushes with greatness. Come along as he chases Muhammad Ali’s Rolls Royce through his suburban hometown. Take a late-night shift, play Pop-A-Shot with Scottie Pippen, play 18 holes of golf with Toni Kukoc, and get a champagne shower from Mark Buehrle.
There’s plenty of heartbreak and redemption along the way. He losses his father on the eve of the Blackhawks’ Stanley Cup championship. He celebrates the memory of his brother at a Bears game and deals with the challenge of passing on his loyalty to his children despite his shortcomings as a youth sports coach.
With these and other moral dilemmas of parenting and growing up a Croatian in Chicago’s south suburbs, Dobrez weaves a raconteur’s storytelling skill with life lessons all gained from watching sports.

John Dunn, resembling a hero of fiction rather than a normal man, was one of the most extraordinary characters of 19th century South Africa. In 1852,at the age of 16 he turned his back on the fledgeling colonial settlement of Port Natal and, crossing the Tugela River, headed into Zululand.. King Cetsshwayo recorded his first meeting with Dunn, mentioning that the night had been bitterly cold: I ordered the servants to bring him in and a tall, splendidly made man appear He was dressed in rags ... I loved this white man as my brother and made him one of my induna.[chiefs] Such was Cetshwayo's generosity despite Dunn having earlier fought on the side of the king's brother during the Zulu War of Succession in which twenty thousand died in a single battle.Undear Cetshwayo's patronage, Dunn became a Zulu chief in every respect except for the colour of his skin. Later, when still under 20, he was educated by a British officer and accepted into colonial society thus allowing him to lead the double life of an English gentleman and, when he crossed back over the Tugela to his 49 wives, that of a powerful Zulu induna. He also assisted Kind Cetshwayo in supplying the Zulu army with a vast number of guns. When war was declared in 1879, Dunn wished ato remain neutral but treacherously sided against his friend and benefactor the Zulu king. With the British victorious, Sir Garnet Wolseley, who thought Dunn to be a very fine fellow, divided Zululand into five Kinglets, and proclaimed Dunn overlord of the largest.. This autobiography is not only a fascinating insight into one of the most influential men in Natal history but also states his candid perception of several British generals including Lord Chelmsford and Sir Garnet Wolseley.

In the world of modern football, no position defines a franchise like the quarterback. The QB is the story of a year in the making of those star players and of the most significant year in QB development in sports history. It is also the year five-foot ten-inch Russell Wilson wins the Super Bowl and, for the first time in over sixty years, a sub-six-foot QB, Johnny Manziel, gets drafted in the first round, forcing NFL power brokers to reexamine how they look at the position-and the game.To tell the story of all that goes on to create the perfect quarterback, bestselling author Bruce Feldman gained unique access to "Johnny Football" (that's Johnny Manziel), George Whitfield, and many other players in what has become a specialized and high-stakes business. The QB tells the story of the interlocking paths of the most fascinating characters involved in this secretive world, examining how advanced analysis has taken root in football. The stories of these men illustrate how high the stakes of the quarterback's game really are, taking listeners on a compelling journey into the heart of America's beloved game.
