Summary

Like many of Wodehouse's most popular works, The Head of Kay's is set among the British upper class; in this instance, the backdrop of the novel is a boarding school for boys. One dorm that is overseen by the much-maligned Mr. Kay has developed a reputation for hijinks—and with good reason. This good-humored novel is the perfect read with which to while away a lazy afternoon.

During much of his early career, from 1944 through to the early 1960s, Richard Hardy took hundreds of pictures of life on the railways and the men he knew and worked with on a daily basis, using his trusty Brownie 620 box camera. These unique behind the scenes images form a fascinating and hugely evocative portrayal of Britain at the height of the era of steam, during the time of the 'Big Four', and after 1947 when the sprawling nationalised network known as British Railways came of age.

The second edition contains many new unseen photos which capture the railways in wartime, providing a valuable social record of the nation at war. In addition there is a sequence of rare photographs of French engines, railways and railwaymen, offering a superb contrast to the British rail network (it quickly becomes evident that the British rail system ran on tea, whereas the French system ran on wine). Great characters are the unifying theme of the pictures, and they include famous figures associated with the railways, such as the poet John Betjeman.

This wonderfully illustrated book sets Richard's personal photographs and text alongside a carefully collated selection of ephemera, artworks and photographs drawn from the National Railway Museum in York. Collectively these images and artefacts tell the stories of the great brotherhood of railwaymen, brilliantly evoking the speed, heat and dust of the footplate.

In this fiery, imaginative, and daring debut poetry collection, multitalented misfit Abel James leads us on a tongue-twisting, brain-tickling romp through 21st-century notions of “progress.” His lyrical, whimsical style beckons us on the quest for truth and healing in the age of memes, metoo movements, trolls, and Trumpisms.

Punching up at patriarchy, tyrants and the dominant social order, James deftly dismantles blind patriotism and the illusion of American superiority. His urgently searing satire of tech titans and the surveillance state is tempered by playful antics, emotional depth, and a bold reverence for nature. It’s a subversive, hypnotic little book that confronts dark questions, conspiracy theories, magic, and histories mysteries with dazzling flurries of irresistible rhymes and ridiculous rants.

You’ll meet indestructible robots, world-conquering pumpkins, $300 million dollar fighter jets, dog-eating dinosaurs, judgmental Sasquatch, and for the first time ever, The Dastardly Zuckerburglar. Speeding through true stories of eels on cocaine, you’ll ultimately discover why designer babies and brain implants won’t save us as we tumble toward the Singularity. Not for the faint of heart, this book will challenge and entertain you. Please press any key to continue.

Tourism in Sardinia is booming, yet there is nothing else in print that deals with the island's incredibly rich history and culture, which stretches back to the Neolithic period.

This book details everyone from the Phoenicians to the Carthaginians and Aragonese who invaded Sardinia, which is covered with some of the most fascinating historical and archaeological sites in Europe – from thousands of nuraghi, Bronze Age towers and settlements, to 'giant's grave' and 'fairy house' tombs. It also holds eccentric festivals, from Barbagia's carnival parade of ghoulish mamuthones, said to banish winter demons, to the death-defying S'Ardia horse race in Sedilo.

There are shipwrecks off Cagliari's coast, underwater caves and submerged Roman ruins in addition to ancient castles, churches, undisturbed hilltop villages and 2,000 miles of some of the most beautiful coastline in the world.
