Summary

How do emotions affect your basic decision making? Why do certain smells prompt long-forgotten memories, and what makes us suddenly self-conscious?

How does the biological organ, the brain, give rise to all of the thoughts in your head – enable you to think, to feel, to be conscious and aware – to have ‘a mind’?

Introducing Mind and Brain explains what the sciences have to say about planning and action, language, memory, attention, emotions and vision. It traces the historical development of ideas about the brain and its function from antiquity to the age of neuro-imaging.

Clearly explained by Professor of Psychology Angus Gellatly and award-winning artist Oscar Zarate, they invite you to take a fresh look at the nature of mind, consciousness and personal identity.
Available since: 04/05/2018.

    Hello,
My name is Suzanne Byrd, and I have been sharing my thoughts and insights on ADHD in a couple of audiobooks we have produced lately. I am an ADHD coach, and I would love to share some of the insights I have gained over the last decade or so with you. I have also found that there isn’t much in the way of informational material that is easy to digest in this area.
There are some very good books which talk about ADHD in a great deal of detail and others that are merely repeating what a few blogs are saying. I wanted to go for something that was easy to digest, along with something that would be eminently useful to my audience, in an audiobook format.
So who is my audience for this book? I believe that they will be mainly women (or their other halves!) who are interested in reading material about ADHD in adult women because
    a) they have recently been diagnosed with ADHD or
    b) they strongly suspect they may have adult ADHD and they want to know more information about it. There is a small sub-group
    c) that is the spouse/other half of the the women in question, and they want to usually know more about the condition so that they can be in a better position to help their partner our (and also to understand their own emotional response to some of the signs and symptoms of adult ADHD.

An examination of the motives for murder from the bestselling author of The Outsider—“Colin Wilson puts the Manson murders in coldly sharp perspective” (Evening Standard).   Why is the “motiveless” murder an increasing phenomenon today? What is the mentality behind the Manson massacres and other shocking cases of brutal killing—too frequent to be written off as isolated cases? In his penetrating exploration of murder, Colin Wilson suggests that the apparently meaningless violence so frighteningly prevalent today is the result of boredom and frustration induced by a repressive society. Particular individuals of high creative potential are thwarted in their natural drives and ambitions and are forced to tread the deadly path of homicide. Colin Wilson traces this path, describing in detail many instances of violent crime, and provides valuable insights that may point to an explanation.
