Summary
DESCRIPTION: I had never liked the way I looked or who I was. A transgender girl. Trying to survive on the mean streets of London, homeless and alone, it was almost too much to bear. This is my story so I can share it with you and commit it to memory on paper. It was deceitful, yes, but it is what I had lived for...! EXCERPT: It was a month later that I kissed my lover goodbye, having spent two solid weeks together, twenty-four hours a day, and if it were possible, I grew even deeper in love with him, which made it especially difficult to leave. But the time had come. I could not just stay with him and have nothing to show for it regarding marriage and children. Did I have his love? Most definitely. Could anything be done about it? No, he was a married man and a Peer of the Realm. I wanted a man who could be with me in public. Who would live with me and cherish me. And so… I walked up the gangplank and onto the ship with only the hope and desire I would find such a life in America. Knowing my English accent would be an asset there, I used the time between London and New York, strategizing how to find such a man and take my place in high society. It was deceitful, yes, but it is what I had lived for since I was an urchin on the streets of London.
