Summary

A team of writers for The Athletic chronicles Manchester City Football Club’s 2020–2021 season and their return to the top in this collection of articles. In season 2020/21, as Premier League football struggled to find its feet, one team rose above all others. Standing Alone is the story of Manchester City’s return to the pinnacle of English football and their journey to a first Champions League final. An irresistible team, led by the greatest coach of his generation, Pep Guardiola, fighting not only for all four trophies, but for a place in history. Throughout this extraordinary season of breathtaking football, they were followed by another team of elite talents, carefully assembled to leave the competition trailing in their wake: the sportswriters of The Athletic. The result is an immersive, real-time account of an untouchable Premier League win, yet another League Cup triumph and, finally, crushing defeat as history beckoned in the final of the Champions League. The Athletic team tell this story through expert analysis and exclusive interviews with players and staff; pivotal games in the season are brought to life; key characters are profiled, including Sergio Aguero, a legend whose time is running out, and Ruben Dias, emerging as England’s Player of the Year. If you are a Manchester City fan, a fan of the scintillating football they play, or just a fan of great sportswriting, you’ll want to replay a unique season with Standing Alone.

You get an actual Audiobook about the history of mixed martial arts and MMA figures as well as a mixed martial arts figures price guide combined in one book.
MMA, or mixed martial arts, is the hybrid contact sport that combines the best set of techniques from Muay Thai, karate, jujitsu, judo, wrestling, and boxing - just to name a few of the disciplines. Initially, MMA was considered to be a brutal blood sport because of its critics, but it slowly transitioned into a no-holds-barred competition, and it has maintained this persona to date. Nowadays, it has managed to move past 'the fastest-growing spectator sport' title into an internationally recognized and prosperous source of entertainment. You'll find MMA events being sanctioned in so many countries all over the world, along with all 50 states of the US.
Action figures aren't only for kids now. Popular shows like The Toys that Made Us illustrated the effect these collectibles have on cultures and people in recent times. This is why it is difficult to deny the fact that adults may drool over MMA action figures just as children would. Now, we aren't saying every MMA toy has achieved the status of a collector's item. We're trying to tell you that the ultimate collector's items are those that have managed to become somewhat of a modern cult phenomenon. So much so that there are already multiple fan groups across a wide array of international markets for these collectibles.
What some people may see as lumps of plastic are actually sources of joy and nostalgia for the millions of UFC fans out there. All of these people would agree that each of these items qualifies as a great trade-off for all the memories that were made on the mats and the octagon.

High Stakes, Deep Faith, and Unbreakable Brotherhood
They were the first No. 1 seed in NFL history to enter the playoffs as an underdog. Their star quarterback was out with a season-ending knee injury. Five-time Super Bowl champions the New England Patriots towered over them. But public opinion didn't matter to the Philadelphia Eagles. They believed in each other. The band of Christian brothers on the team believed in the God of the impossible, and they played for an audience of One.
The most extensive book to explore the Christian faith shared by many of the team's players, Birds of Pray details the incredible inside story behind the Eagles' capture of the biggest prize in professional sports: the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Through exclusive interviews with the players, never-before-seen photos included in the audiobook companion PDF download, and insider accounts of the miracle season's most memorable moments, Philly native and Associated Press sportswriter Rob Maaddi reveals a side of the team the world has yet to fully witness.
From an impromptu baptism in the team's cold tub to weekly Bible studies and pre-game prayers, to the unique friendship between star quarterback Carson Wentz and back-up-then-MVP Nick Foles - the Eagles excel in the unexpected. Birds of Pray follows the deep faith shared among players, the high stakes they faced together, and their relentless reliance on Christ who gives all strength in moments of crisis and celebration alike. The result is a boldly inspiring, entertaining read that will challenge readers to go deeper in their faith, dream bigger, and live with renewed courage for whatever odds life stacks against them.

Lee Howey was inspired to write this book after reading the autobiographies of other footballers. These were household names with glory-laden careers whose exploits on the pitch will never be forgotten. Yet, despite access to such fabulous raw material, they have mostly produced bloody awful books – predictable, plodding, repetitive, self-important and just plain boring. They may have been better footballers than Howey, but he has written the most entertaining football memoir you are ever likely to read.

Not that Lee Howey's football career is in any way undistinguished. He won the First Division Championship with his beloved Sunderland in 1995 and played in the Premier League against some of the most celebrated names in English football, including Jürgen Klinsmann, Ryan Giggs, Eric Cantona, Gianfranco Zola, Peter Schmeichel, Ian Wright, Alan Shearer and Fabrizio Ravanelli – and not always unsuccessfully. It wasn't all assaults upon the kneecaps on wet Tuesday nights in Hartlepool (though there is plenty of that too).

This honest, thoughtful and hilarious book may not end with an unforgettable game at Wembley, or a 100th England cap. However, it will amuse and delight fans of all teams in its portrait of the game of football before it disappeared up its own backside.
