Summary

"Rebel at Work is a fascinating book that makes you see your workplace in ways you haven't considered before. Natalie's approaches will have immediate impact for anyone trying to 'lead from the trenches' in a positive and productive way." —Jon Gordon, author of The Energy Bus, The Carpenter, and The Power of Positive Leadership
Are you tired of leadership that claims to want an innovative culture, but throws up internal roadblocks against any new initiatives? If you're a frustrated employee banging your head up against a corporate brick wall, then this is the book for you.
Change in a company often happens from the inside out when valuable employees get fed up with leadership's vague direction and conflicting priorities. But as an employee, it can be difficult to know how to inspire innovation without getting further sidelined. Rebel at Work shows you how to take matters into your own hands. You'll learn:
- How to understand the unwritten rules in your organization—so you can work around them
- The types of corporate conformists, as well as their hardwiring—so you can mitigate their fear of change
- How to bring clarity to all conversations, especially since jargon can kill promising ideas
- And how to prepare step-by-step plans that increase your chances for buy-in by your leadership
Best of all, you'll learn how to find others like you in your organization to unite with and get the results you want!

Phoebe Yates Pember served as a matron in the Confederate Chimborazo military hospital in Richmond, Virginia, during the Civil War, overseeing a dietary kitchen serving meals to 300 or more wounded soldiers daily. Reminiscences of a Southern Hospital is her vivid recounting of hospital life and of her tribulations (and personal growth) as a female administrator. To follow her from day one, when she is greeted with “ill-repressed disgust” that “one of them had come,” and she, herself, “could only understand that the position was one which dove-tailed the offices of housekeeper and cook” to the day when she as exerts control over the hospital’s “medicinal whiskey barrel” is to watch a woman find herself. Besides describing “daily scenes of pathos,” Pember gives a horrifying account of the prisoner exchange of November 1864 (“living and dead . . . not distinguishable”), and also of the evacuation and burning of Richmond in 1865. Her memoirs were serialized in Cosmopolite magazine in 1866, then reprinted in book form in 1879 under the title A Southern Woman’s Story. Pember was honored by the US Postal Service with a stamp in 1995. (Summary by Sue Anderson)

The captain of the Titanic went down with his ship on 15 April, 1912. But thoughts have power, and those who endure in the stories of the living are said to continue to roam the world after their deaths. And so the captain wanders in search of the things he tried to find in life, and discovers his destiny intimately entwined with a painter who shares the same fate, not knowing that their paths had crossed a long time ago.

The Impermanence of Lilies is a melancholic tribute to the nature of life and a yearning for love, in a story that reaches across lifetimes, borders, and the space between two hearts.

"A poetic, poignant love letter to life. Daniel Yeo has important things to tell us about the painful beauty of impermanence, and he tells them with a tender lyricism."
-Melissa de Villiers, author of The Chameleon House

“A wistful travel narrative by the RMS Titanic Captain that dives into preternatural waters, flowing into surprising and surrealist tributaries of reflections on death, memory, identity, friendship, and unwaveringly, love.”
