Summary

Sometimes people can be really selfish and spiteful. I mean, look – you put up a sign in front of your house to say “NO PARKING – RESIDENTS ONLY!” – and people who don’t share your home with you, who aren’t even coming to visit you – just keep on parking there! Where are YOU supposed to park? Not forgetting the idiots who managed to get their driver’s licenses without knowing that it’s illegal to park in someone’s driveway, or in front of a gate or entrance!

Printable memes. You can pick and print one you feel is appropriate and *stick it under their windshield wiper to shame them for their selfishness before all the passers-by! With 40 humorous and sarcastic memes to choose from, the choice of response to the asshats who rubbed you the wrong way is yours! They may even learn from the experience and not do it again – who knows? Good luck!

-A stunning fictional debut by an award-winning poet, Catherine Temma Davidson deftly blends memories, family stories, recipes, and Greek myths in this intricate and sensuous first-person narrative. During a year-long visit to her ancestral homeland, a young Greek-American woman discovers herself through stories from the past. As she comes of age, she finds her own meaning in the tales of Persephone, Athena, and other mythic figures. She is finally able to identify with her mother's and grandmother's lives and to appreciate the unspoken understandings they share like secret family recipes. Catherine Temma Davidson has won awards from the Academy of American Poets, the Dorothy Daniels Award from PEN, and first prize at the L.A. Poetry Festival. With her ardent reading, narrator Alyssa Bresnahan evokes the deep passion of the poet's language. Her performance carries you pleasurably through the rich cultural and psychological landscapes the novel traverses.

A Dutchman seeks his fortune in hilarious, ironical, maritime, historical romp that’s Master and Commander by way of Monty Python. Inspired by a shotgun blast in the seat of his breeches, young Karli Van Cleef quits his native Holland to seek his fortune. He arrives in early Victorian London and soon he is turning a pretty profit. But Karli sees that true opportunity flowers in India’s fields of opium poppies and the treaty ports of the China coast. So, he takes a berth in an opium clipper hell-bent for the Indies. It is a journey beset with perils. Karli is confronted by the mountainous seas, high-piled plates of curry, and the ferocious penalties of the Articles of War. He survives the malice of the Boers, the hospitality of anthropophagi, and the horrors of Lancashire cooking. En route he acquires some interesting diseases, dangerous friends and enemies, a fortune, and a wife almost as good as new.Praise for All the Tea in China“Bonfiglioli . . . offers a surfeit of delights in this historical romp, first published in 1978. . . . Bonfiglioli colors his picaresque with an abundance of wit and narrative verve. Indeed, the novel often reads like an unapologetically bawdy Pirates of the Caribbean.” —Publishers Weekly“This swashbuckling, mildly ribald adventure will appeal to teens who like historical fiction with a strong plot. With pirates continuing to be popular and the unlikelihood that libraries still own this—or ever did—for teens, young adult collection developers should take note.” —School Library Journal

Ann Josephson is a twenty-five-year-old sociopath whose compulsive kleptomania manifests itself in the most unlikely of places: the community center where she works out every day. The walls of the community center insulate her from the terrors of the outside world, which include her freelance work as a graphic artist; her socialite parents, who pay the better part of her living expenses; her therapist, who devotedly punches the clock; and the dark void of romantic relationships. As Ann battles the inner demons that plague her millennial psyche, she must also battle the fiends that plague her at the gym: the loudly grunting beefcake who can’t be bothered to drop his weights at a reasonable volume, the naked old lady in the locker room using a towel as butt floss, the housewife in yoga pants that obviate the need for yoga wheeling her double stroller up and down the indoor track. Set in suburban Kansas City in the early 2010s, Community Klepto—a droll combination of Bridget Jones’ Diary and Choke—makes incarnate the characters and shenanigans that go on in every gym in the world.

“Mabanckou dazzles with technical dexterity and emotional depth” in his debut novel, winner of the Grand Prix Littéraire de l’Afrique Noire (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

This tale of wild adventure reveals the dashed hopes of Africans living between worlds. When Moki returns to his village from France wearing designer clothes and affecting all the manners of a Frenchman, Massala-Massala, who lives the life of a humble peanut farmer after giving up his studies, begins to dream of following in Moki’s footsteps. Together, the two take wing for Paris, where Massala-Massala finds himself a part of an underworld of out-of-work undocumented immigrants. After a botched attempt to sell metro passes purchased with a stolen checkbook, he winds up in jail and is deported.

Blue White Red is a novel of postcolonial Africa where young people born into poverty dream of making it big in the cities of their former colonial masters. Alain Mabanckou’s searing commentary on the lives of Africans in France is cut with the parody of African villagers who boast of a son in the country of Digol.
