Sinossi

'Unless I am allowed to tell the story of my life in my own way, I cannot tell it at all.'

Published in 1857, Wonderful Adventures of Mrs. Seacole in Many Lands was the first autobiography written by a Black British woman, depicting Seacole's extraordinary journey to becoming a nurse in the Crimean War.

In this trailblazing memoir or courage and compassion, Mary Seacole – a Jamaican-born nurse and entrepreneur – chronicles her remarkable life and career as a nurse and healer. With unwavering determination, Seacole voyaged from the Caribbean to Panama, and ultimately the frontlines of the Crimean War, caring for wounded soldiers while running her business, the 'British Hotel' – a haven for those fighting in the war. Both a vivid travelogue and a powerful testament to one woman's bravery, Wonderful Adventures of Mrs. Seacole in Many Lands is an inspirational tale of a truly pioneering life.
Mary Seacole (1805 – 1881) was a British nurse during the Crimean War. Born in Jamaica to a Creole mother, she is famed for publishing the first autobiography written by a Black woman in the UK. In 1990, Seacole was awarded the Jamaican order of merit.
