Summary

Needing to preserve her cover as a terrorist, Paige Turner agrees to accompany a New York mobster into Mexico.  The trip will be a vacation for Paige while the mobster negotiates a new drug pipeline.  However, nothing is as it appears to be and she is soon forced to do the unspeakable.
Excerpt from the story:
“Hump…if you do a good job and are enthusiastic…you may earn quickly.  If I have to chain you to a bed…well…men do not pay as much for women who provide so little…service.”
“How long?” I repeat.
“Until I decide to let you go…or you give me the source of your drugs.”
Shit!
“That doesn’t sound like much of a deal,” I risk arguing.  However, I will snap up any offer he makes that gets me out of here.  This prison is escape poof and most any other place will present opportunities to either escape or get a call out to Jackson.
“How is the sex different…working for me?  But…if you like it here,” he looks at the ceiling, “you can stay here.”  He stands and folds the chair.
“NO…I mean yes…I will do what you ask…anything you ask,” I leap forward and grip the bars while I plead.
“Anything,” he sadistically repeats my word.  “You will need to demonstrate…prove your….willingness.”
“Okay…how?”
“Strip”
Shit, he wants proof now.

July, 1922. Newly-appointed 'movie czar' William H. Hays is about to arrive in town on a single-minded mission to clean up Hollywood. He is said to be compiling a list of 'undesirables' whom he plans to bar from screen work. They call it the Doom List.

With the industry in the grip of fear and paranoia, Hollywood's hottest young director Rex Ingram is determined that no hint of scandal should mar the premiere of his new movie, The Prisoner of Zenda, and hires private investigator Tom Collins, a fellow Irishman, with instructions to protect his leading lady's reputation at all costs. But, as Collins discovers, Barbara La Marr isn't the only member of the cast hiding a dangerous secret.

Meanwhile, a body is discovered in the Baldwin Hills to the south of the city. Could there be a connection? Against his better judgement, Collins is drawn into a case of scandal, forbidden love, blackmail . . . and cold-blooded murder.

Quietly dignified Inspector Ghote, 'one of the great creations of detective fiction' (Alexander McCall Smith), finds himself trapped on a train with a fellow passenger who may - or may not - be the legendary confidence trickster he is travelling to collect, in this classic mystery - with a brand-new introduction by bestselling author Vaseem Khan.

When Inspector Ganesh Ghote boards the train to Calcutta, he's looking forward to spending forty hours detached from his responsibilities, but nevertheless still doing his job. He is on his way to collect legendary swindler A. K. Bhattacharya, who's defrauded wealthy art-lovers for years, and bring him back to Bombay to stand trial.

But his peace and quiet is immediately disturbed by a chatty fellow traveller, who, Ghote soon realises, talks relentlessly but never gives anything personal away. Who is this man, who never takes off his sunglasses, and whose hair appears freshly dyed? The good inspector's heart stops when he sees the initials on his companion's case: A.K.B.

    A. K. Bhattacharaya, the master trickster, is in prison in Calcutta, awaiting transfer under Ghote's custody to Bombay. It would be the wildest fantasy to think he should be sitting on the train with Ghote instead.

    Wouldn't it?
