Summary

BRIGHTON BEAUTY is a Regency romance set near the walled city of Chester, England. Chelsea hadn't planned to be a deceiver. She had been the prettiest—and most penniless—young lady at Miss Farringdon's Academy in Brighton. Befriending spoiled heiress Alayna Marchmont and telling her about a family scandal was a schoolgirl's naïve mistake. Now, Alayna has blackmailed Chelsea into spending a dull month in the country with Alayna's elderly aunt, who is nearly blind, while pretending to be Alayna! Since both girls are blonde and a similar size, to succeed at the trickery should be easy!
The scheme might have worked but for the arrival of Aunt Millie's nephew, Lord Rathbone, who comes to England to claim his bride, Miss Marchmont, sight unseen. Rathbone is not disappointed with his "fiancée."
But Chelsea is falling in love with the handsome, albeit misled, nobleman. This foolish masquerade could lead to disaster, unless a resourceful Brighton Beauty can find a way to call a halt to it without losing a handsome lord's love. (Also in Ebook as A PRETTY PUZZLE)
"The pressure never lets up on this hero and heroine!" – Melissa Frederick.

Natty Bumppo goes by many names: La Longue Carabine, Hawk Eye, Leatherstocking, and in this tale, The Pathfinder. Guide, scout, hunter, and when put to it, soldier, he also fills a lot of roles in pre-Revolution upstate New York. An old friend, Sergeant Dunham of the 55th Regiment of Foot, asks him to guide his daughter through the wilderness to the fort at Oswego where Dunham serves. With the French engaging native Indian allies against the British and the Yankee colonists, such a journey is far from safe. Dunham has a plan in mind - to see his daughter Mable married off to the most redoubtable frontiersman and marksman in the territory, who is Pathfinder himself. But as an attractive and marriageable young lady, she draws other suitors. Then a military expedition contrives to put Sgt. Dunham, Mable, Pathfinder, and two other wooers into an isolated and dangerous garrison. Here treachery raises the stakes, and with the soldiers of the detachment shot down or captured, all of them must show mettle for any of them to escape with their scalps.

As the 1950s Mau Mau war breaks out in the foothills of Mt. Kenya, Wambũi, a fourteen-year-old girl leaves her besieged village to join a prestigious boarding school a half day’s journey away by train. There, she becomes aware of her extraordinary mathematical abilities discovered by her teacher, Eileen Atwood. Initially, Wambũi views Eileen’s attentions with suspicion and hostility, but over time, the two grow close and form a lifelong friendship. Unfortunately for Wambũi, the mid-twentieth century isn’t ready for a female math prodigy, particularly in Kenya. But she quietly and defiantly takes on the obstacles seeking to define her, applying her unusual gifts in new directions, which ultimately benefits her impoverished family and inspires her siblings and their children to pursue their own dreams. After forty years in Kenya, Eileen unexpectedly loses her employment authorization and is forced to return to England, where she struggles to adjust to living in a country she barely recognizes. Meanwhile, Wambũi’s son, Ray, a doctor, navigates a fraught visa application process and travels to America to begin residency training; however, his hospital becomes insolvent and shuts down a year later. He and his colleagues are assimilated into other programs where, as foreign-born physicians, they endure relentless prejudice. As a black man, he also discovers that the streets of Chicago are sometimes quick to judge, with serious consequences. A saga of family and friendship spanning five decades and three continents, 'The People of Ostrich Mountain' chronicles the interconnected lives of three outsiders as they navigate the vagaries of race, gender and immigration.

What secret grips Corvus Hall?Visiting the Great Exhibition to view the wax anatomical models of the famous but reclusive Dr Silas Strangeway, Jem Flockhart and Will Quartermain find a severed hand, perfectly dissected and laid out amongst the exhibits. Assuming it to be a prank by medical students they return it to Dr Strangeway, who works at Corvus Hall, a private anatomy school run by Dr Alexander Crowe - once one of Edinburgh's most revered anatomists. Jem's persistence reveals that a body does indeed lie in the school's mortuary, minus its right hand. The body has no provenance. More macabre still, its face has been dissected making identification impossible. All is not as it should be at Corvus Hall. Dr Crowe's daughter, Lilith, visits the mortuary in the dead of night. Her twin sisters, Sorrow and Silence - one blind and one deaf - exert a malign influence over the students. Organs, freshly dissected, appear in the anatomical museum. Fear grips lecturers and students, even as something unseen binds them in a bloody pact of silence.'Gothic. Gory. Glorious . . . E. S. Thompson's Jem Flockhart books are the best I've read in years. Jem is just my kind of heroine: scarred, smart, complex, and unapologetically queer'. - Kirsty Logan, author of The Gloaming

A sparkling collection of Regency romances from the popular author with “considerably more wit and pizazz than the legendary Georgette [Heyer] herself” (Kirkus Reviews). A true artist of Regency romance, Fiona Hill paints pictures of the past with warmth and charm, enchanting readers the world over with her beautiful, heartfelt tales. Ladies and lords, viscounts and estates, Fiona Hill weaves spellbinding stories that bring readers back in time and set them in the middle of household intrigue, of passion and peril, of complicated men and independent women. In these nine tour-de-force novels, Hill takes her readers on a journey to a bygone era, into the beating heart of Regency-era England, where trouble is always afoot—and so is new love . . .Praise for the novels of Fiona Hill“In the battle of the sexes waged in this lively Regency romance, the contestants are overtaken by circumstances . . . The victory is detailed with wit and verve.”—Publishers Weekly on The Country Gentleman “[A] very un-fusty Regency frolic, this one featuring a quartet of nicely matched pairs . . . another little winner.”—Kirkus Reviews on The Stanbroke Girls

The Spraggs, a wealthy family of Midwesterners, are visiting New York City to marry off their beautiful daughter Undine. While Undine's beauty catches the attention of several high-society men, she finds it difficult to fit in with the old-money social circles that rule New York. When she finally marries Ralph Marvell, she embraces a life full of frivolities, which eventually leads to her tumultuous demise. Best known for inspiring the hit series Downton Abbey, this classic novel is a scathing critique of ambition featuring one of the most ruthless heroines in literature.
