Summary

The thrilling conclusion to the Hollow Dolls duology continues Simone's story as she sets out with her friends to stop the body walker once and for all.

Simone is still reeling from learning the truth about her mother, Maeve. But she knows she has to stop her before she finds what she's looking for and ends up hurting her friends in the process.

When Simone stumbles across an old legend about a handful of folks with rare and powerful talents who fled to a secret island haven, she wonders if the soul summoner Maeve seeks could be there. So she and Sebastian set off to find it, hoping to get to there before Maeve does.

But as Simone and her traveling party draw closer to the island, it becomes clearer that Maeve will stop at nothing to get what she wants. And if her evil isn't stopped, it could mean terrible consequences for everyone Simone loves.

With the gripping feel of a new classic, the Hollow Dolls duology will enthrall middle school readers who love fantasy, magic, and danger. Perfect for 5th grade and above.

“The story’s gentle surprises are sure to delight, as will the birds’ happy reunion.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)   Toddlers and beginning readers will love joining in on the quest for a missing mother chicken in this sweet book by the beloved, award-winning author and illustrator that shows how appearances can be deceiving . . .   “Two little chicks play hide-and-seek with their mother. But though they find her easily enough on their first two tries, the game becomes more difficult; the shape of the comb on top of the hen’s head turns out to be very like the petals of a flowering tree, the fur of a growling dog, and the rays of the rising sun . . . There’s a nice balance of predictability and surprise in Gomi’s narrative that should appeal to preschoolers.” —The New York Times

“Personal in tone, chatty, and intriguing in subject matter—a sort of ‘Guinness Book of Animal Oddities’ . . . A fun-for-all informative compendium.” —School Library Journal   With humor and flair, Michael Hearst introduces the reader to a wealth of extraordinary life-forms. Which animal can be found at the top of Mount Everest, 10,000 feet under the sea, and in your backyard? Which animal poops cubes? Which animal can disguise itself as a giant crab? These fascinating facts and hundreds more await curious minds, amateur zoologists, and anyone who has ever laughed at a funny-looking animal.  “A quirky toast to the fascinating, impressively well-adapted freaks among us.” —Discover Magazine “Hugely entertaining and just as informative, this guide to ‘unusual creatures’ proves that truth can be stranger than fiction . . . Hearst often has great fun at his subjects’ expense (‘blobfish: not as cute as the aye-aye,’ reads a caption next to the forlorn-looking psychrolutes marcidus) while delivering fascinating insights into what makes each of these animals extraordinary.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)  “Hearst’s appreciation for the quirkiness of nature shines through, and is reinforced in a concluding note admonishing readers to be kind to the earth.” —The Horn Book Magazine  “Hearst’s enthusiasm for his subject . . . comes through on every page. A terrific conversation starter.” —Scientific American  “Hearst brings us 50 examples of Mother Nature in all her strange pageantry . . . Not cute curios, but the seriously weird, which for some—hopefully many—will make the animals that much more appealing.” —Kirkus Reviews

    Hickory, Dickory, Dock!
The mouse ran up the clock.
    The clock struck one,
    The mouse ran down,
    Hickory, Dickory, Dock!
WITHIN the hollow wall of an old brick mansion, away up near the roof, there lived a family of mice. It was a snug little home, pleasant and quiet, and as dark as any mouse could desire. Mamma Mouse liked it because, as she said, the draught that came through the rafters made it cool in summer, and they were near enough to the chimney to keep warm in winter-time.
Besides the Mamma Mouse there were three children, named Hickory and Dickory and Dock. There had once been a Papa Mouse as well; but while he was hunting for food one night he saw a nice piece of cheese in a wire box, and attempted to get it. The minute he stuck his head into the box, however, it closed with a snap that nearly cut his head off, and when Mamma Mouse came down to look for him he was quite dead. The story becomes better after this somber opening, trust me. Find out why those mice ran up that clock.
