  The Incas had consolidated their empire only a century before Pizarro and his Spanish conquistadores took control of Inca lands in the 1530s. The Incan heartland was the Andes Mountains from Ecuador down through Peru into parts of northern Chile, including what is now Bolivia, some of Argentina, and in the north, bits of what is now Colombia. It covered about 770,000 square miles, far larger than Spain, and held an estimated 14 million people, more than in Spain, comprised of many different indigenous groups.  
  	Lima was the seat of the Viceroyalty of Peru, which included almost all of the Spanish colonial region in South America. Then, Peru meant today’s Peru, Ecuador, and parts of Chile, and in the mid-18th century, a new Viceroyalty of La Plata was set up, based in what is now Buenos Aires. Upper Peru was centered on La Paz and Chuquisaca (since renamed Sucre after the hero of independence), and Peru was centered on Lima and Cuzco. The addition of La Plata as a viceroyalty refocused the necessary slow of silver from Lima and Peru to Buenos Aires and the Atlantic. The Audiencia of Charcas (Bolivia) was placed under La Plata’s authority. 
  	In one sense, the Spanish conquest was simply a shift of empires for the indigenous peoples. The Incas were as imperialistic as Spain, and they put down rebellions with the same ferocity. However, Incan rule was generally mild and concerned with the welfare of the empire’s people. The indigenous people chafed under Spanish rule, and the lost Incan days were idolized in popular memory. This set the stage for one of the most famous and mythologized conflicts in the history of the Americas.

  Annie Rose Charlotte Key was born on 9th November 1859 in Kensington, London. 
   
  With a privileged background—her father was an admiral, her mother a Lady, Rose began her creative life as a painter before a stab at writing local history settled her into popular fiction. 
   
  Her works were solidly written and often described as having a ‘certain graceful facility’. 
   
  Her marriage to Philip Augustus Champion de Crespigny in 1878 resulted in a family of 4 children and a name of status. 
   
  Rose was a leading member of the Ridley Art Club, the Lyceum Club in Piccadilly, and of the British College of Psychic Science.  Victorian society had a particular fascination with spiritualism and in ‘The Moving Finger’ Rose uses the theme as a background to introduce her popular occult detective Norton Vyse into her series of short stories.  
   
  Rose Champion de Crespigny died on 10th February 1935.  She was 75.

  Drawn from a 2005 international symposium, these essays explore current tyrannosaurid current research and discoveries regarding Tyrannosaurus rex. 
   
  The opening of an exhibit focused on “Jane,” a beautifully preserved tyrannosaur collected by the Burpee Museum of Natural History, was the occasion for an international symposium on tyrannosaur paleobiology.   After seven weeks of bitter fighting there was a desperate need to break out of the Normandy bridgehead.  In late July 1944 Lieutenant-General Sir Miles Dempseys Second Army moved two entire corps from the Caen sector to the relatively quiet countryside around Caumont.  Here, the British XXX Corps prepared to give battle, with VII Corps advancing in support on the right flank between XXX Corps and the American first Army.  The offensive did not go to plan.  While the XXX Corps attack stalled, VIII Corps surged ahead.  With the experienced 11th Armoured and 15th Scottish Divisions in the lead and Guards Armoured close behind, a deep penetration was made, threatening to take the pivotal city of Vire and unhinge General Haussers German Seventh Army.The main narrative of this book will span the initial break-in from Caumont on 30 July, through the armored battles of the following days, to the desperate German counter-attacks of 4  6 August, the no less desperate German defense of Estry up to the middle of the month, and the final withdrawal from Normandy.  The book also examines Montys refusal to seize Vire, the disputed Anglo-American border and the Operations impact on the German Mortain offensive.
