EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK Louis’ background as a comedian officially began in 1984 when he took to the stage in Boston, Massachusetts during an open mic night. With little material and confidence, Louis could only stay on stage for two minutes. Needless to say, he was not pleased with the experience. It effected him so negatively, in fact, that he actually didn’t get back on a stage to do stand-up comedy until two years later. Louis has come a long way since then. One of his biggest accomplishments was his first Emmy win in 1999 for his “Outstanding Writing for a Variety or Music Program” for The Chris Rock Show. He was nominated two other times for his Chris Rock work, and was nominated also in 2000 for his work on Late Night With Conan O’Brien, although those didn’t come in as wins. More recently, the awards have been stacking up for Louis C.K. with recent nominations at several film festivals for his comedy specials and his newest TV sitcom.
