Summary

Explore the numerous paradoxes at the heart of the theory and practice of democracy promotion. The Democracy Promotion Paradox raises difficult but critically important issues by probing the numerous inconsistencies and paradoxes that lie at the heart of the theory and practice of democracy promotion. For example, the United States frequently crafts policies to encourage democracy that rely on cooperation with undemocratic governments; democracy promoters view their work as minor yet also of critical importance to the United States and the countries where they work; and many who work in the field of democracy promotion have an incomplete understanding of democracy. Similarly, in the domestic political context, both left and right critiques of democracy promotion are internally inconsistent.Lincoln A. Mitchell provides an overview of the origins of U.S. democracy promotion, analyzes its development and evolution over the last decades, and discusses how it came to be an unquestioned assumption at the core of U.S. foreign policy. His discussion of the bureaucratic logic that underlies democracy promotion offers important insights into how it can be adapted to remain effective. Mitchell also examines the future of democracy promotion in the context of evolving U.S. domestic policy and politics and in a changed global environment in which the United States is no longer the hegemon.

If a majority of us decide to vote YES on 18 September 2014, then that divorce from the rest of the UK is easy to do. No expensive lawyers. No cost except the travel to the polling station' No need to lift a finger. Just a cross on a ballot paper. But before you say, that's great, think on' This is a decision we will live with for the rest of our lives, and our children's and grandchildren's, for maybe centuries to come.
    MARIA FYFE

It's been noted over and over again that women are more likely to vote NO in Scotland's Referendum 2014. There has been endless speculation as to why this may be, but until now little expression of their views has been heard.

In a series of essays arguing for a NO vote at the forthcoming Scottish independence referendum, 14 women varying in age, ethnicity, political views and life experience - including Maria Fyfe, Johann Lamont MSP, Sarah Boyack MSP and Fiona O'Donnell MP - come together to make a positive case against independence.

With contributions from leading current and former politicians and citizens,
Women Saying No presents the arguments against independence, from a female perspective, in an attempt to widen the debate.

    Praise for Maria Fyfe

The book she has written is a gem. It zips along on a skilful mix of genuinely funny anecdotes, telling vignettes and perceptive political analysis. It serves future historians well too, for it will serve as a necessary counterbalance to the leadership-centric books and diaries which have followed the Tony Blair - Peter Mandelson years. But it has a more immediate attraction than that. The Nats gets a good pre-referendum kicking from Oor Maria. Recalling that the Nats used to call the Scots Labour MPs 'the feeble fifty' she points out the SNP were nowhere to be seen the night a last ditch Tory filibuster failed to halt the Minimum Wage Bill.

America is in its last days. While it has become great again on a short-term basis, in the long term, America falls, and this author proves this authoritatively and persuasively in a very interesting and articulate manner.
We have experts ad infinitum on everything about America's past, present, and future, but nearly all the experts focus on a pure secular perspective, void of any acknowledgment of the spiritual. This audiobook includes both to arrive at a far more realistic and fact-based forecast of America's future. Whether you are a secular historian or a devout Christian, you'll be stretched with ideas in this audiobook you've never heard anywhere else. You'll also get the answer to a question no one has fully answered up to now.
What motivates radical liberals to do what they are doing? The author takes you inside the mind of a liberal like no one else ever has. You'll finally know what makes them tick. What if America was on the verge of a massive market crash, but all the experts kept saying the economy has nowhere to go but up, and all the books and talking heads promised a bright and prosperous future? In such an environment, would you not be wise to at least read one contrarian book that indicated the market may be poised for a horrendous crash? If America is on the precipice of darkness, don't you want to know?
This audiobook about America's future may be the most important audiobook you'll ever listen to. There are three chapters you cannot afford to miss:The psychology of liberalismWhat God says about narcissism and psychopathyThe trajectory of America's final days
Fasten your seat belt, because this audiobook is not what you expect.

The Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist delivers “[a] sobering account of the struggle for world economic supremacy” in this New York Times bestseller (Library Journal).  What can we learn from the events of twentieth century? With the effects of the Cold War still evident in the global economy and the lives of everyday Americans, master journalist and historian David Halberstam sets out to answer this question. Halberstam’s perceptive The Next Century looks to the future by examining the past. From the rise of the Japanese economy to the startling changes that reshaped the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, Halberstam argues that the American economy’s survival depends on the rededication and continued education of the American worker. As pertinent in today’s economy as it was when first published in 1991, The Next Century is a timeless call to arms, reminding us that we must continually better ourselves in order to compete on the world stage. This ebook features an extended biography of David Halberstam.

“A fascinating, elegiac account” of the bond between two of the Civil Rights Era’s most important leaders—from the journalist and author of Strange Fruit (Chicago Tribune).   With vision and political savvy, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy set the United States on a path toward fulfilling its promise of liberty and justice for all. In The Promise and the Dream, Margolick examines their unique bond, both in life and in their tragic assassinations, just sixty-two days apart in 1968. Through original interviews, oral histories, FBI files, and previously untapped contemporaneous accounts, Margolick offers a revealing portrait of these two men and the mutual assistance, awkwardness, antagonism, and admiration that existed between them.   MLK and RFK cut distinct but converging paths toward lasting change. Even when they weren’t interacting directly, they monitored and learned from one another. Their joint story, a story each man took pains to hide during their lives, is not just gripping history but a window into the challenges we continue to face in America.   Complemented by award-winning historian Douglas Brinkley’s foreword and more than eighty revealing photos by the foremost photojournalists of the period, The Promise and the Dream offers a compelling look at one of the most consequential but misunderstood relationships in our nation’s history.

There is no going back to the old "normal". What you used to know as "your life" is no more. This rebuilding phase, disguised as a "pandemic", has been well prepared and none of this has to do with a virus or a health hazard.

In 2019, a great reset of the monetary, economic and political system was long overdue. The tension could be felt everywhere. The elite, the "Secret World Government" finally wanted to implement their "New World Order". They were tired of the delusion of free elections, individual rights and self-realization. As long as we were needed as work force they played along, but now that robots and AI are better and faster than us we became dispensable.

However, neither those responsible for the old system nor their puppets in politics and the media were willing to take the blame for a major system crash. They feared the rage of the masses. What they needed was a scapegoat, something or someone to be held responsible for the great reset, a complete redesign of our way of living and for many of us the right for living.

And then the Chinese presented the perfect way out of their dilemma: an enemy that nobody can see or fight or even understand. SARS-COV-2 is a political virus, designed in a lab in China with Western support and knowing. This is a proven fact. This common cold virus did not come unforeseen. There was a clear build-up of events in 2019 that led to the worldwide lockdown with all its consequences, ranging from intelligence reports to Bill Gates' Event 201 to a Climate Emergency in Europe after faked elections.

Even with the easing of lockdown measures in some areas or countries this experiment is far from over. It has just begun. Do you think that politicians or so-called "scientists" and "journalists" will voluntarily renounce their newly gained powers and the attention that they so enjoy?

This is a serious political, social, economical and spiritual crisis. This is as serious as it can get. This is Huxley's Brave New World and Orwell's 1984 all combined. This is the ultimate fight "Good" versus "Evil". What do you want this world to be, for yourself and for your descendants: fearful and oppressive or loving and creative? Find out what lies behind it and get ready to act.
