Summary

Lewis Carroll (1832–1898) made his name with his Alice books in the 1860s, but also wrote on popular mathematics – he was a maths tutor in various capacities at Christ Church College, Oxford, from his undergraduate days until his death.

First published in 1885, "A Tangled Tale" is a collection of ten brief humorous puzzles – called ‘knots’ – originally published in a monthly magazine in the early 1880s. Each puzzle is described in story form, then summarised as a ‘maths problem’. For the book, Carroll assessed answers sent in by readers, referring to them by name (usually pseudonyms) and grading them, with comments in typically polite-but-cutting Oxford-don fashion.

Making Time - Why Time Seems to...

Why does time seem to speed up as we get older? Why does it seem to drag when we're bored or in pain, or to go slowly when we're in unfamiliar environments? Why does it slow down dramatically in accidents and emergency situations, when sportspeople are 'in the zone', or in higher states of consciousness?
Making Time explains why we have these different perceptions of time, suggesting that there are five basic 'laws' of psychological time and uncovering the factors which cause them. It uses evidence from modern physics and unusual states of consciousness to suggest that our normal sense of time is an illusion, 'created' by our minds. But perhaps more importantly, on a practical level, this book shows us what we can do to control our sense of time passing, to make it pass slowly or quickly in different situations. It suggests that it is possible for us to live through more time in our lives, and so effectively increase the amount of time which we are alive for.

In the final chapter, Steve Taylor uses insights from Buddhism - investigating the practices of mindfulness and meditation - to show how we can actually transcend linear time, and learn to live fully in the present moment.

Dropshipping: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Cryptography is a direct link to the blockchain world. A blockchain is resistant to modification of the data and it is an open distributed ledger that can record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a verifiable and permanent way. If simply understood it is a growing list of records called blocks. And each block is a cryptographic hash of the previous block, a timestamp and transaction data. Blockchain was invented by a group of people called Satoshi Nakamoto in 2008 to serve as a public transaction of cryptocurrency bitcoin. The identity of that group called Satoshi Nakamoto is still unknown. The invention of blockchain in reference to bitcoin made it the first currency or digital currency to solve the double spending problem without a need of a trusted authority of central server. Blockchain is also considered as a payment rail. There is no security in this chain, so some time computer world marketing also called it snake oil.

Our Common Future, also known as The Brundtland Report, is a joint work produced in 1987 by a United Nations commission headed by former Norwegian prime minister, Gro Brundtland. Intended to respond to a growing number of environmental concerns faced by the global community, it recognized the need for long-term strategies to manage natural resources. It says we must act collaboratively to protect the environment, while at the same time stimulating economic and social development. These goals are summarized as “sustainable development,” defined in the report as humanity’s ability “to ensure that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” The report argues that human development and the environment are deeply linked and have to be looked at together. This requires international collaboration and greater awareness among the general public. By 1989, half a million copies had been sold.

Learning from Data is the concept which has developed recently. Data is a concept which is raw in nature and it has been given meaning only after compilation and currently, after globalization. The amount of data in all the sectors have grown enormously. Learning from Data is a very popular concept now as companies are saving data only to extract and make analysis out of the same on which various other factors are dependent. The other factors are majorly competitive basis and help big tier companies to study the market and grow even more in the present competitive era. With so much data around, another important aspect is the protection of data. To make use of data, the next major factor is its protection as since the competition exists in all fields; the data field is no exception. Data is the current trending concept all over the globe and research over the same will undoubtedly fetch more of analysis.
