Summary

An endlessly fascinating, beautifully designed survey of time—how long things take, how long things last, and how we spend our days
Our relationship to time is complex and paradoxical: Time stands still. Time also flies. Tomorrow is another day. Yet there's no time like the present. We want to do more in less time, but wish we could slow the clock. And despite all our time-saving devices—iPhones, DVRs, high-speed trains—Americans feel that they have less leisure time than ever.
In an era when our time feels fractured and imperiled, The Book of Times encourages readers to ponder time used and time spent. How long does it take to find a new mate, digest a hamburger, or compose a symphony? How much time do we spend daydreaming, texting, and getting ready for work? The book challenges our beliefs and urges us to consider how, and why, some things get faster, some things slow down, and some things never change (the need for seven to eight hours of sleep).
Packed with compelling charts, lists, and quizzes, as well as new and intriguing research, The Book of Times is an addictive, browsable, and provocative look at the idea of time from every direction.

This is the story of the bible told like you've very likely never heard it told before.

The bible is one the most highly regarded literary works of all time. A number one best-seller before there even was such a thing, the bible has long been the most purchased book in history. The problem is however, that most people haven't actually read the book, and those who have don't really understand a very fundamental fact about the bible. That fact being that the bible is in all honesty, simply a very bad work of fiction.

In my version I strip away all the metaphysical mumbo-jumbo and all the supposedly miraculous nonsense, and tell the story for exactly what it is. The bible is nothing more than a collection of fictional works from the minds of deluded and possibly mentally ill men, which tells the story of the most powerful wizard ever to exist. This wizard just so happens to supposedly live in another dimension, and the bible offers the stories of how this extra-dimensional wizard used to supposedly interact with mankind.

Told from the perspective offered here, the absolute ridiculousness of this book becomes painfully transparent. Leaving the reader to wonder how anyone could have ever believed it as fact.

*This is an expanded edition of a much shorter work published late in 2014. This edition offers a great deal more story than the previous release, and is especially intended for those people who enjoyed the first work yet found it to be a bit short and lacking in some of the more ridiculous stories from the bible.

Cartoonist John McPherson’s comics may be close to home, but thank your lucky stars that his erratic characters haven’t made themselves too comfortable in your home. McPherson’s ode to everyday life is punctuated with the off-the-wall personalities who can turn any normal occurrence into something ridiculous. The only way to read these cartoons and their comical characters—from inept surgeons to cruel chiropractors—is to expect the unexpected. Close to Home debuted in 50 newspapers in 1992 after McPherson left his engineering job to become a full-time cartoonist, and today the comic strip runs in nearly 700 newspapers worldwide. His characters are regularly confronted with everyday dilemmas, including aggressive acupuncture and leaky laughing gas tanks, and their responses are always cleverly unpredictable. The situations are somehow both outlandish yet relatable, and anyone is sure to burst out in laughter at this original e-book collection of all of Close to Home’s boldest and best takes on everything medical.

Problem Dog? You Can't Train Your Dog If You Don't Speak Dog! Amy Morford is a dog whisperer. She's been training dogs for more than two decades and understands what makes your dog tick. How to Speak Dog provides a general overview of dog behavior before specifically focusing in on training solutions for six of the most common dog misbehaviors: aggression, digging, nuisance barking, fear biting, submissive urination, and separation anxiety. Morford understands that not everyone understands "dog talk" so she kicks off by introducing basic obedience training methods. She explains each training situation by breaking it down into chronological micro-steps. How to Speak Dog is as close as one gets to hiring a dog trainer without actually hiring one. Morford has made the process as simple as possible, with six chapters written in "plain English" to eliminate ambiguity so the training process is easy and less stressful for both the teacher and the student. In addition to covering basic training and the elimination of problem behavior patterns, Morford also discusses clicker training, crate training methods, and the use of positive reinforcement. If you've been struggling to resolve problem dog behaviors or just adopted a new dog and want to be sure that your new household member is well-behaved and well-trained, you've got to learn "dog talk." This "how-to" dog training guide will ease the way to optimum communication with your canine best friend. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) administers oral as well as written exams for pilot certification and flight review. These exam guides teach applicants not only what to expect, but also how to exhibit subject mastery and confidence under the scrutiny of the FAA Examiner. In this series, the most consistent questions asked in each exam are provided in a question-and-answer format, with information sources for further study. Applicants facing the Commercial Pilot oral exams will benefit from the topics discussed and the further study materials provided in this Commercial edition, which have been updated to reflect important FAA regulatory, procedural, and training changes, including fundamentals of instruction, technical subject areas, an appendix with the latest version of the FAA's Advisory Circular (AC) 61-65.The Eighth Edition contains a new chapter on the currently hot FAA topic of "scenario-based training" (SBT), written by Arlynn McMahon (author of "Train Like You Fly"). It provides insight into these more-complex questions on how to demonstrate one's grasp of the practical application of flight training. Scenario-based questions are now an integral part of FAA Oral & Practical Exams, and FAA examiners are using them more and more often.
