Summary

David Bowie: Rockstar, Free Spirit, Goblin King. Cancer victim. Alan Rickman: Angel, Alien, Potions Master. Cancer victim. Lost to us early in 2016, the shock of learning of their private battles--as well as personal experiences with cancer--galvanized a group of authors, editors, publicists and artists to come together and do what we do best--donate our talents to the fight against cancer. All proceeds from this charity anthology are being donated to some of the most dedicated cancer researchers out there: St Jude Children's Research Hospital, with the goal of helping them defeat cancer.
This anthology contains short stories and poems inspired by the lives and art of Bowie and Rickman, as well as fiction and non-fiction works about facing cancer in the ones we love and ourselves.

The new collection from the New York Times bestselling author of The Leftovers and Little Children, featuring stories focusing on Perrotta's familiar suburban nuclear families.
Tom Perrotta's first book, Bad Haircut, consisted of linked stories featuring a shared protagonist. Now, nineteen years later, he has written and compiled his first true short story collection. This twelve story book features a group set in Perrotta's trademark suburban setting, focusing on the fissures in families and unexpected connections among members of typical American communities, including "Senior Season" and "Nine Inches". Others offerings here showcase Perrotta's assured, smooth writing, but may surprise fans with new protagonists and concerns. One of these twistier stories is "The Smile on Happy Chang's Face", which was the Boston Book Festival's first all-city One City, One Story selection in 2010.
Following up on his dramatic and bestselling novel The Leftovers, which is being developed by HBO as a series, Nine Inches is a varied and interesting audio-book from one of our most thoughtful and elegant writers.A Macmillan Audio production.

Stories are one of mankind’s greatest artistic achievements. Whether written down or spoken they have an ability to capture our imagination and thoughts, and take us on incredible journeys in the space of a phrase and the turn of a page.

Within a few words of text or speech, new worlds and characters form, propelling a narrative to a conclusion with intricate ease. Finely crafted, perfectly formed these Miniature Masterpieces, at first thought, seem remarkably easy to conjure up. But ask any writer and they will tell you that distilling the essence of narrative and characters into a short story is one of the hardest acts of their literary craft. Many attempt, but few achieve.

Shipwrecked and castaway, Daniel DeFoe's hard-luck character is still the standard for "growing where you're planted." Captured by pirates, he makes his break in a small boat and undergoes desperate adventures before winning his way back to civilization. But Crusoe proves willing to chance his luck a second time when, after sweating his way to prosperity as a planter in Brazil, he undertakes a voyage that isn't needful… and is marooned on a small island off South America.
