The name Leslie Townes Hope is not the most familiar to us. Born in Eltham, London on May 29th, 1903 he and his family emigrated to the United States aboard the SS Philadelphia before moving to Cleveland, Ohio.

Although he entered show business in the 1920s it was only in 1928 that he changed his name to the one and only Bob Hope.

Stints in Vaudeville and then Broadway were followed by his radio debut in 1932 and feature films in 1938.

1938 was a banner year for Bob Hope as it was also the debut season for the eventual decade running smash-hit radio show: The Pepsodent Show. Despite the sponsors, name getting the billing this was Hope’s show.

His opening monologue was the result of his hiring from his own pocket – he had an extravagant salary from the sponsor - of a team of 8 writers to write top notch jokes and skits. His comic timing turned him into a sensation. The show was so popular that it had its pick of the best of show business stars. Everyone wanted in.

Now its time to cut the talk and get ready for laughs. It’s time for Bob Hope and his guests.

In Post-war America fear took on new forms. The witch-hunt of superpower espionage swept the West. If you weren’t a patriot you were suspect.
We needed heroes. We needed Mr X.
Herbert Marshall played the role of agent Ken Thurston – the ‘Mr. X’ who travelled far and wide across the globe as he unravelled dangerous cases. In this he was ably assisted, or perhaps annoyed, by a comedic side-kick; Pegon Zellschmidt.
The Nation and ourselves were in safe hands even if he wasn’t.

It consists of 15 original pieces from composer Alexandre Stanké, which are characteristically simple and honest. Whether ambient pulsing or gently melodic, they never claim the focus of the moment and always take a supporting role in helping you to be still and to draw your gaze inward. Perfect for the soft rise and fall of a one-hour yoga class as well as for unstructured meditation and relaxation. The music on this CD was specially written for Anna Jefferson's yoga class in Boston, Massachusetts in the fall of 2011.Maya - IllusionAvidya - IgnoranceDarsana - Vision, especially of the divineAnahata - The heart center, 'unstuck'Svarupa - One's own true naturePrana - Vital life energyMoksha - LiberationDharana - Single-pointed focusPranavayu - Vital energy moving as windsBhakti - DevotionMantra - A sacred thought or prayerKriya - Cleansing practiceMetta - Loving-kindnessDhyana - Meditation, the quieting of the mindPrashanta - Tranquility
