Summary

A novel inspired by real events...

Beware of tiger... and her lawyer.

The Warrens aren't your average family-they live at a zoo. When their Bengal tiger, Ms. Benni, mauls an "aspiring model," the young man's multi-million-dollar lawsuit threatens to cripple their lifetime passion-caring for their beloved animals. The family's prospects to win at the jury trial look bleak, in spite of the fact that the young man deliberately walked into Ms. Benni's cage. When all appears lost for the family, their lawyer stumbles upon a creative defense.

If she can fly to London within the judge's shortened time frame and get the tiger expert's testimony on video and prove to the jury that Ms. Benni is a grudge tiger with a reason for her vengeance, they have one shot at winning. If she fails, the Warrens lose everything.

'One of the greatest novels of the Second World War' The Times. 'A remarkable find' Antony Beevor. 'A masterpiece' Mail on Sunday.

Stalingrad, November 1942. Lieutenant Breuer dreams of returning home for Christmas. But he and his fellow German soldiers will spend winter in a frozen hell – as snow, ice and relentless Soviet assaults reduce the once-mighty Sixth Army to a diseased and starving rabble. Breakout at Stalingrad is a stark and terrifying portrait of the horrors of war, and a profoundly humane depiction of comradeship in adversity.

The book itself has an extraordinary story behind it. Its author fought at Stalingrad and was imprisoned by the Soviets. In captivity, he wrote a novel based on his experiences, which the Soviets confiscated before releasing him. Gerlach resorted to hypnosis to remember his narrative, and in 1957 it was published as The Forsaken Army. Fifty-five years later Carsten Gansel, an academic, came across the original manuscript of Gerlach's novel in a Moscow archive. This first translation into English of Breakout at Stalingrad includes the story of Gansel's sensational discovery.

Ten years ago, sisters Olivia and Melanie Greene were on a backcountry hiking trip when their parents were in a fatal car accident. Over the years, they grew apart, each coping with the loss in her own way. Olivia plunged herself into law school, work, and a materialist view of the world--what you see is what you get, and that's all you get. Melanie dropped out of college and developed an online life-coaching business around her cafeteria-style spirituality--a little of this, a little of that, whatever makes you happy.

Now, at Melanie's insistence (and against Olivia's better judgment), they are embarking on a hike in the Porcupine Mountains of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. In this remote wilderness they'll face their deepest fears, question their most dearly held beliefs, and begin to see that perhaps the best way to move forward is the one way they had never considered.

Michigan Notable Book Award winner Erin Bartels draws from personal experience hiking backcountry trails with her sister to bring you a story about the complexities of grief, faith, and sisterhood.

When you go to a bar for a drink and the beautiful, sexy woman you met a couple hours ago tells you she wants to take you back to her place and fuck your brains out, what do you do? Most guys in their early 20’s would jump at the opportunity.  Rudy Fisher does just that, but he has no idea how deep the water is when he jumps in. After satisfying her orally for better than an hour, she locks him in an inescapable chastity cage without letting him cum. It isn’t long before he tells her he’ll be her slave forever. Talk about jumping in with both feet without even looking!

Susanne immediately takes control, becoming his Mistress and owner.  He has no way to stop her, and down deep, he doesn’t want to. This has been a secret fantasy of his for many, many years. Over the next few months, she totally destroys him, and he willingly accepts it. He knows that as a slave he is her property and no longer a man.  Rudy gives up everything to satisfy his need to serve a woman like her. He craves what she had to offer – the bondage, the pain, the total domination, and in the end he gives it all.
