Summary

Available for the first time in one volume, this is the definitive collection of Tolkien’s five acclaimed modern classic ‘fairie’ tales in the vein of ‘The Hobbit’, fully corrected and reset for this edition.
The five tales are written with the same skill, quality and charm that made The Hobbit a classic. Largely overlooked because of their short lengths, they are finally together in a volume which reaffirms Tolkien's place as a master storyteller for readers young and old.

• Roverandom is a toy dog who, enchanted by a sand sorcerer, gets to explore the world and encounter strange and fabulous creatures.
• Farmer Giles of Ham is fat and unheroic, but - having unwittingly managed to scare off a short-sighted giant - is called upon to do battle when a dragon comes to town;
• The Adventures of Tom Bombadil tells in verse of Tom's many adventures with hobbits, princesses, dwarves and trolls;
• Leaf by Niggle recounts the strange adventures of the painter Niggle who sets out to paint the perfect tree;
• Smith of Wootton Major journeys to the Land of Faery thanks to the magical ingredients of the Great Cake of the Feast of Good Children.

World-renowned Tolkien author and expert, Tom Shippey, takes the reader through the hidden links in the tales to Tolkien's Middle-earth in his Introduction, and recounts their history and themes.

Lastly, included as an appendix is Tolkien's most famous essay, "On Fairy-stories", in which he brilliantly discusses fairy-stories and their relationship to fantasy.

Taken together, this rich collection of new and unknown work from the author of The Children of Húrin will provide the reader with a fascinating journey into lands as wild and strange as Middle-earth.

    Read The Entire Series That Reviewers Have Called: "Exciting," "Brilliant," "Original," "Vividly Intense," and a "Riveting, Page-Turning Read."
    Maya was a mostly normal college sophomore when her life took a pretty sharp U-turn. That would be the fault of a mysterious and menacing stranger who killed her boyfriend with a single touch, took Maya in his arms, and flew away with her. Literally, flew. Turns out that there's a whole lotta'  weird and danger going on that most of the world knows nothing about.
    The stranger injects Maya with his own bone marrow, and she starts to change. Cue the cool new abilities, like enhanced strength, sharpened senses, and the nifty ability to see emotions in the form of colorful auras. …Only there's this teensy eensy downside to Maya's new "talents." That would be her unhappyily insistent need to feed on the life energy of those around her.
    Don't worry, Maya's not going dark side quite yet. She is rescued by two men claiming to be her half brothers. One brother believes Maya can be saved; the other one is keeping his gun primed and ready for when she gives into her hunger. Not exactly a happy family reunion. Somehow, the three mismatched siblings must find a way to fight the murderous group that calls themselves "angels" while learning how to trust each other. Oh, and when Maya's not desperately trying to control the tantalizing song of her hunger, you'd better bet she'll be looking for the one who changed her. She's got a raging case of revenge, not to mention a bullet with his name on it.
    Join Maya and her two brothers for a whirlwind adventure across five exciting, action-packed books and two novellas in the Girl With Broken Wings Box Set by J Bennett. If you love the CW show Supernatural, then you are going to fall hard for Maya and her brothers, Gabe and Tarren. Even in the midst of super powers, gun battles, and far more Chuck Norris jokes than is decent, you'll also get a big dose of humor, family bonding, and some big, tear-jerking scenes.

    The tale begins over three-hundred years ago, when the Fair People—the goblins, fairies, dragons, and other fabled and fantastic creatures of a dozen lands—fled the Old World for the New, seeking haven from the ways of Man. With them came their precious jewels: diamonds, rubies, emeralds, pearls... But then the Fair People vanished, taking with them their twelve fabulous treasures. And they remained hidden until now...

    Across North America, these twelve treasures, over ten-thousand dollars in precious jewels in 1982 dollars, are buried. The key to finding each can be found within the twelve full-color paintings and verses of THE SECRET.

    Are you smart enough?

    THE SECRET: A TREASURE HUNT was published in 1982. The year before publication, the author and publisher Byron Preiss had traveled to 12 locations in the continental U.S. (and possibly Canada) to secretly bury a dozen ceramic casques. Each casque contained a small key that could be redeemed for one of 12 jewels Preiss kept in a safe deposit box in New York. The key to finding the casques was to match one of 12 paintings to one of 12 poetic verses, solve the resulting riddle, and start digging. Since 1982, only two of the 12 casques have been recovered. The first was located in Grant Park, Chicago, in 1984 by a group of students. The second was unearthed in 2004 in Cleveland by two members of the Quest4Treasure forum.
