Summary
This book traces the evolution of Local Government in Nigeria from colonial three-tiered system to autonomous, single-tiered local government system following the 1976 Local Government Reform in Nigeria. With the Reform, Local Governments in Nigeria became the third tier system of Government in the Federation. Since then, however, Local Governments in Nigeria have been fraught with many existential issues that have stunted their growth as agents of development and change at the grassroots level. This book unravels the dynamics and points the way forward to achieving the objectives of the 1976 Reforms to turn the LG into a participatory, viable, development-oriented and truly autonomous local Government System in partnership with the other tiers.
