In 1979, I was three months pregnant with my second child and in excruciating pain, pain I’d been dealingwith every day for almost 15 months. I couldn’t walk, I couldn’t stand, I couldn’t sleep. In just a year, I’dgone from being an active young woman to being almost entirely incapacitated. Everything was pain.Trying to find the cause was almost as bad as the diagnosis. At every turn, I was told nothing was wrong.Nobody was helping.Another three months passed and I went in for my six-month check-up with my obstetrician. He, too, toldme everything was fine… but it definitely was not. I broke down in tears in his office. I couldn’t do itanymore. The agony was too much and I was at my wit’s end. He took me seriously and what happenednext would change my life forever. After 18 months, I finally had a diagnosis - 1st April 1980 - It was a tumour the size of a tennis ball on myknee. It was Cancer. Almost in the same breath they said that I would have to have my leg amputatedabove the knee and oh by the way, he said, highly probable that I would lose the baby as it wouldn’t survivethe trauma of the surgery. I was 26 years old and 26 weeks pregnant. After 40 years since diagnosis, I’m still here… and that wasn’t the only time I was told I had cancer. Yes, I’ve survived a lot,but I’m just like anyone else. The strength is within us all. You just have to reach for it. There is light at theend of the tunnel, even when you can’t see it. You just have to keep going, especially when it seems likeyou have nothing left.

Meet the Man Behind the Myths John Calvin's name evokes powerful images, most of them negative. In the minds of many, he is perceived as an ivory-tower theologian who was harsh and unreasonable, the driving force behind a dangerous theological system. In this volume, Burk Parsons and eighteen other leading Reformed pastors and scholars authoritatively reveal the truth about Calvin and his teaching that he was humble, caring, pious, Scripture-saturated, and, above all, passionate about upholding the glory of God. Published in conjunction with the five-hundredth anniversary of Calvin s birth (2009), John Calvin: A Heart for Devotion, Doctrine, and Doxology offers a highly readable portrait of a man whose example and teaching remain vitally relevant even in the twenty-first century.

Paris and Other Disappointments is a hilarious memoir about fathers and sons, and the joys and challenges of travel, from one of Australia's most talented comedians.Adam Rozenbachs decided he would take his father on the trip of a lifetime to Europe— a chance to repay his dad for everything he’d given him in life. After three weeks of travel, Adam decided not killing his dad was more than enough repayment. Frustration reached a whole new level as Adam discovered his dad didn’t like museums, galleries, landmarks, travelling, or Paris. But amid the irritation of travelling with an adult toddler (an adoddler), Adam learned —through gritted teeth— more about his dad, his family and himself. If you’ve ever traveled with family, are considering it, or would never even dream of it, you will identify with the pain, pressure and triumph of Adam making it out alive.

A biography on the unique military career and decorations of the British general Strick. He commanded no fewer than three armored regiments in World War II. Major-General Eugene Vincent Michael Strickland CMG, DSO, OBE, MM, CStJ, Star of Jordan – Strick – rose from penniless hardship to great military distinction. He was a tank man, a war hero who fought in France, North Africa and Italy during World War II, and whose name is revered even today among regiments that he commanded. His is the extraordinary tale of a man who gained a Regular Commission in the Indian Army from Sandhurst, but resigned soon afterwards. After a series of intriguing adventures, he then enlisted as a private soldier in the Royal Tank Corps. In May 1940, he played a major part in the counterattack at Arras, where two British infantry tank battalions held up the German advance for three days, enabling the success of the Dunkirk evacuation – and perhaps saving Britain from ultimate defeat in the process. Strick's outstanding success as a troop-sergeant in France saw him immediately (re-)commissioned, and his rise to high command was then swift. He commanded the leading Squadron of North Irish Horse in Tunisia 1943, and then commanded the North Irish Horse in its greatest battle, the breaking of the Hitler Line, in Italy in 1944. He served in seven regiments and had four regimental commands. This book focuses on his experience during World War II, drawing out the unique qualities required of leaders in close-combat battle, the particular demands of armored infantry cooperation, and how an individual can make a success of such a rapid rise through the ranks during wartime. This fine story of adventure and achievement is brought alive by Strick’s remarkable correspondence – he wrote home to his family every second or third day throughout the war, except when action was too fierce to write – supplemented by the recollections of his comrades and years of archival research. More than a portrait of a gifted and morally courageous man, this biography also offers an insight into the arts of command and tactical control, and the difficulties of a family life fragmented by war.

It’s never too late to say sorry. A whispered family tragedy ripples across three generations in this coming of age mother and daughter story. Sylvia is dying and her daughter, a British expat living in Dubai, recalls her childhood and the confusing relationship she had with her mother. After Sylvia’s death, she searches for explanations amongst her mother’s possessions, prompting uncomfortable childhood memories and clues to her mother’s sadness. The story moves back to London’s Jewish East End in 1930, where Rose is expecting a baby. When the natural order is disrupted, and part of our personal history is erased, who do we become? 'As children we assume our parents are perfect and complete creations, but mums and dads will inevitably misbehave, test the boundaries, make mistakes, stamp their feet and shed tears before they become the men and women they need to be.'
