    A Poetry Book society Recommendation
Luke Kennard recasts Shakespeare's 154 sonnets as a series of anarchic prose poems set in the same joyless house party.
A physicist explains dark matter in the kitchen. A crying man is consoled by a Sigmund Freud action figure. An out-of-hours doctor sells phials of dark red liquid from a briefcase. Someone takes out a guitar.
Wry, insolent and self-eviscerating, Notes on the Sonnets riddles the Bard with the anxieties of the modern age, bringing Kennard's affectionate critique to subjects as various as love, marriage, God, metaphysics and a sad horse.
'Luke Kennard has the uncanny genius of being able to stick a knife in your heart with such originality and verve that you start thinking "aren't knives fascinating... and hearts, my god!" whilst everything slowly goes black.'

Book Four of Vergil's Aeneid follows the tragic love and death of Dido, Queen of Carthage - an unfortunate casualty in Aeneas' fated quest to find a new home for the Trojans and become a founder of the Romans.
This audiobook is narrated in Latin according to the Calabrese Classical Reconstruction, with careful attention to historical features such as phonemic vowel quantities, geminated consonants, and nasalised final m. The narration is delivered with drama and emotion, pausing at major sense units or mid-line caesuras rather than at line boundaries, to enhance comprehensibility. The delivery is also grounded in a rhythmic pulse for better contrast between light and heavy syllables so that the listener can perceive some of the varied metrical effects employed in Vergil's hexameters.

A collection of the Bard’s beautiful, and often surprising, poetry.   In addition to his numerous dramatic and comedic masterpieces for the stage, William Shakespeare is also famed for his sonnets. These poems, usually consisting of fourteen lines in iambic pentameter, address not only traditional themes of romantic love but also darker subjects including lust, hatred, and infidelity, and featuring a risqué series referring to the poet’s mysterious “Dark Lady.” While the sonnet existed long before Shakespeare’s time, he, as usual, put his own mark of genius on the form.</
