Summary

Slim Montagne is about to leave town and head home when he stumbles over a pair of long, lean legs on the sidewalk. Daniel "Danny" Crane, a battered, dusty and bruised cowboy, is world-weary and has stopped believing in humanity. A drifter, his last ride left him on the side of the road, and he just barely made it to town before collapsing against the nearest wall.
When Slim offers Danny a place to stay, he's suspicious, but figures he has nothing left to lose. Back at the ranch, Slim introduces Danny to Ret and Roscoe, two other men who live and work on the property. Turns out, Ret, Roscoe and Slim have a very intimate relationship, and they're more than willing to add Danny to their circle.
All Danny has to do is be their cowboy, for keeps.

After the murder of his fiancé Paul during an armed robbery, Jamie tries to move on with his life while grieving his loss. As a part of that, he goes to the remote cabin in the mountains he and Paul had restored to be their getaway. He plans on using it to hide away from the world -- forever, if necessary.

What he doesn't plan on is making a new friend of the canid kind. A wolf-dog he names Lycus that he thinks is either a stray or a runaway. Lycus comes and goes as the spirit moves, showing up when Jamie needs his company and then vanishing again.

Jamie also didn't plan on the three humans who come into his life. One is Glen, who says he lives in the area and often hunts in the mountain forests. The other two claim to be game wardens searching for a feral wolf -- whose description matches Lycus. Jamie doubts it's the truth, knowing how tame Lycus seems to be.

Despite the fact that he's never seen Lycus, Glen offers to help prove the men are lying. Will they be able to save Lycus from being captured while bonding in a way that might, if Jamie's ready, become more than just friendship?

For years, I've lived by one simple rule: Don't Mess With The Ex.

It was an easy rule to follow when Laurence Kensington III was on the other side of the country. Now that he's shown up out of the blue to tell me we're still married? Not so much.

I followed my heart into a whirlwind romance with him once, and it ended in a heartbreaking annulment. Or at least, I thought it did. I don't know what to think of the news we're still hitched.

I've vowed to never be so impulsive or reckless again. But when he brings me a proposal that will help me achieve my dreams for Granville and refuse his entitled family something they want, I'm once more put to the test.

Laurie is as handsome as I remember, and so damn tempting. His sweet gestures, generous spirit, and open heart make it a challenge to stick to my rule.

But then, maybe messing with the ex wouldn't be all bad. Maybe it's time to write new rules. Is it really so wrong to follow my heart if my heart was right all along?

    Contains mature themes.
