Summary

War has come to England, and the Furys soldier on Desmond Fury calls himself a working man, but it has been years since he put in a full shift. A brutally arrogant union leader, he longs to escape the working class and sees World War II as his ticket to better things. He is at a banquet for war recruiters, savoring the atmosphere of refinement, when a call comes from the hospital that drags him right back into the mud.   His mother, the indomitable Mrs. Fury, has collapsed. After years of holding the family together—and making life hell for everyone in it—she lies in the hospital, near death. But Mrs. Fury is not finished yet. As Desmond fights for respectability and her other children wage battles of their own, Mrs. Fury will do what she can to keep her family intact—even if it kills her.  Our Time Is Gone is the third book of James Hanley’s acclaimed Furys Saga.

Fans of Arthurian tales will definitely love Amadis of Gaul, which is a notable sight among medieval chivalric romances, written by the Portuguese writer Vasco de Lobeira.

Amadis of Gaul is the story of knight Amadis, who searches for his own identity. Being born in secret, from a forbidden love, he was abandoned but found and raised by a knight. When he reaches maturity, he starts feeling the desire to investigate his origins, so he leaves in a quest for finding more about his identity. But this is not an ordinary quest; it is full of fantastic adventures and characters that are very different than common people: sorcerers, monsters, wild animals, kings and queens, wise men, dwarves, giants and more.

The action is fast moving - there are pitched battles, combats and tournaments set in exotic places from England to Constantinople, which will certainly entertain all readers. The story has plenty of fantasy and magic - which turns Amadis into the ethos of medieval society (full of adventure non-related to the everyday life) and the embodiment of chivalric virtues: loyalty, justice, humility.

Oh, and there is also romance between Amadis and Oriana - which is, of course, the main thread of the book's plot. Amadis of Gaul is considered one of the best books of its kind, praised even by Miguel de Cervantes and definitely a significant part of the history of European literature.

Hauntingly read by Justin Avoth.'Robert Dinsdale mixes history and mythology with great panache . . . Richly textured and with an appropriately labyrinthine plot, this is a book that explores the monster inside man — and vice versa. Book of the Month' Sunday TimesMan or monster? Hero or villain?London, 1861: Ten-year-old Nell belongs to a crew of mudlarks who work a stretch of the Thames along the Ratcliffe Highway. An orphan since her mother died four years past, leaving Nell with only broken dreams and a pair of satin slippers in her possession, she spends her days dredging up coals, copper and pieces of iron spilled by the river barges – searching for treasure in the mud in order to appease her master, Benjamin Murdstone. But one day, Nell discovers a body on the shore. It’s not the first corpse she’s encountered, but by far the strangest. Nearly seven feet tall, the creature has matted hair covering his legs, and on his head are the suggestion of horns. Nell’s fellow mudlarks urge her to steal his boots and rifle his pockets, but as she ventures closer the figure draws breath – and Nell is forced to make a decision which will change her life forever . . .From the critically acclaimed author of The Toymakers comes an imaginative retelling of the legend of the Minotaur, full of myth and magic and steeped in the grime of Victorian London; perfect for lovers of historical fiction with a mythical twist such as Stone Blind and Circe.Praise for Once A Monster:'Imaginative mash-up of the mythical with Victorian gothic.' - The Times'A wonderful magic trick of a story, full of very human monsters and monstrous humans. Dinsdale is a beautiful, evocative story teller. - Stuart Turton, bestselling author of The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle

    ~The Beast of Verona~
Destined to take his father’s place as leader of their werewolf pack in Wyoming, Howard Lupus accepts his father’s demand that he go on a rite of passage to learn more about his heritage. Combing through dusty museum archives and old Roman ruins in Verona, Italy, is not his idea of a fun summer. Fortunately, he has the help of Marina D'Antuono, a cute but clumsy museum attendant with a passion for history. Together, they begin to uncover the story of his elusive gladiator ancestor.

In the year 69 AD, Decimus Rocius Lupus has no way of understanding the hideous truth about himself. A man cursed to share his body with the spirit of a beast, Decimus is impressed into the Roman army, captured as a traitor to the empire, then forced to perform in the Verona amphitheater. As a gladiator, he has no choice. He must kill or be killed. The beast within him wins the battles, but eats away at his soul.

As Howard and Marina trace his ancestor’s past, Howard fears losing control, just like Decimus. Can a woman like Marina ever come to accept the beast of Verona?

    ~Amber Ashes~

Following the trail of his werewolf ancestor, Howard Lupus heads to the ancient ruins of Pompeii. Candace Perry, the head of the excavations, shows him a villa with a mural of a man running with wolves and an engraved carnelian stone of a wolf. Could these be clues to finding Decimus?

Decimus has made a comfortable profit on his vineyard in Pompeii. While at the slave market, Decimus spots a foreign, dark haired woman with a fiery spirit. Aria is wary, but Decimus soon proves that in spite of his violent past, his heart is full of compassion. Then the volcano Vesuvius begins its ominous rumblings. Can Decimus save those he’s come to care for, or will the amber ashes of the volcano destroy them all?

As Howard uncovers more of his past, museum attendant Marina D'Antuono finds a letter describing a myth, a monster with golden eyes. Did Decimus survive the destruction of Pompeii? Complicating matters, Howard’s brother Eddie joins him, quickly falling for Candace. Will Marina forgive Howard for leaving her so suddenly in Verona? All he knows is that he must continue his quest to discover his past if he’s to help shape his pack’s future.

After all, what can a descendant of Decimus, a beast, offer a woman like her?

For the past two hundred years, Decimus has lived as a fisherman hermit outside the port town of Ancona. All he seeks is peace and solitude after causing so much pain and suffering in the lives of those around him. But one woman is determined to change that. Torn between loving her and keeping his peace, Decimus plans to run away again. But when pirates and barbarians threaten those he loves, the beast within is awakened once again.
