The New One Minute Manager by Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson is a business parable that portrays a young businessman learning about the strategies of one very effective manager who uses techniques described as the New One Minute Manager methods. The employee searches far and wide for the perfect management strategy but does not find an ideal manager—someone who isn’t focused exclusively on people or results. Eventually he learns that there is an effective manager in a town nearby.

When the young man meets that manager, they discuss his strategies and approach to managing, which is hands-off while being both results-oriented and people-oriented. The New One Minute Manager style is focused on making people feel good about themselves.

Next, the young man meets with three of the manager’s employees. The first tells the young man about One Minute Goals. These are goals that can be evaluated in just a minute…

This book is about job shops. Inside is a combination of stories and practical tips from my experience. It’s not theory. This is how I lost money, made money, kept my job or got promoted. These are all the things I dug through the literature trying to find answers to.
Job shops can be many different types of businesses. Factories, distributors, and government offices could all be considered job shops. Job shops are all those places where the work you do, and the volume of work varies from day to day, even custom design businesses where every piece is unique.
There were seven challenges I struggled with that I couldn’t find adequate answers to. We talk about it here by addressing: controlling lead times, eliminating knack points, Return on Invested Capital (ROIC), solving dynamic capacity, getting to full kit, order unevenness (Mura), and Minimum Viable Process (MVP).
If you work in high volume mass production this probably isn't written for you. If you've never lost a night's sleep trying to understand how your business works, put this down. If you like big words and highly technical descriptions I’m not your guy.
This book is for the searchers. Because if high-volume production is heavy metal, make-to-order is jazz.
I’m looking forward to this. Come inside.

Despite conventional wisdom, the gifts and experience you need are already innate. Having that "it factor" or "special ingredient" isn't as elusive as you may think. P.S. You're a Genius takes you on a self-reflective journey to find your own gifts, asking questions like: How are your idols a reflection of your own genius? What are you great at that nobody taught you how to do? How is your darkest shadow your greatest gift? What have you been unexpectedly criticized for?Through these questions and more, you'll uncover the ways you naturally excel, relinquish the lie that you're not "good enough," and discover how to convincingly convey your value to anyone.
