This entertaining book is a light-hearted but factual look at the Australian way of life. It covers all aspects of ‘the lucky country’, including the main Aussie icons, the Aborigines, sport, pubs, ‘kulture’, taxi drivers, gambling, dress, language and the main cities. Little-known facts are given, nuggets of history are unearthed and surprising statistics are presented, together with a host of amusing stories and anecdotes. The book also includes a detailed look at Australia’s unofficial national anthem, ‘Waltzing Matilda’, and the classic ballad, ‘The Man from Snowy River’.

It’s All About Australia, Mate is a good read for anyone interested in our nearest neighbour and for anyone about to visit Australia. Unlike any other book on the market, this is the complete guide to the Australian way of life and a good laugh to go with it.

The author of Georgia’s Civil War ghost books proves that “The Peach State’s specters . . . come in many forms” (US News & World Report).   Every portion of Central Georgia is thoroughly haunted. Tobe, the ghost of Orna Villa in Oxford, had an appetite for biscuits. Angry spirits near Augusta drove a family from a beautiful old home. Paranormal entities in a home cobbled together from three old houses created a tapestry of supernatural events. People still seek advice from a fortuneteller dead half a century, and a long-deceased girl hitches a ride home on the same night each year. Author Jim Miles presents a ghost story from each of the fifty-one counties in this historic region.   “Every county in Georgia has at least one ghost story, and author Jim Miles has gathered them into three books. . . . Miles traveled to all 159 counties, as well as two counties that ‘went extinct’ during the Great Depression. The completion of the books was a 10-year project for Miles . . . The stories span all of Georgia history, from one with its origins 2,000 years ago to the latest in ‘scientific ghost hunting.’” —Gainesville Times

Unpromisingly – for a walking book – Desire Paths begins on a hospital gurney as the author prepares for open heart surgery. Thereafter, it dances back and forth in place and time between an array of obscurely connected walks that Roy has undertaken over the years. Among the book’s many characters and diversions are Wetherspoons, Capt. Picard, the Navy Cut sailor, the buried ‘Spirit of Brighton’, Wendy Craig, Harrods, Buddhism’s Six Realms of Desire, ‘Things to Do...’ tourist brochures, Argleton redux, the abyss, strip-lynchets, punk residues, Milton Keynes, multiple identities and an inkling of what the future may hold for thoughtful walkers. Each chapter starts with a quote from Phil Smith's Mythogeography, specifically from the ‘Legend’ given in that book – ‘legend’ as in a set of definitions of symbols used on maps to define landscape features. Roy uses these symbols to organise the book. The main body of each chapter is an account of a walking journey he has done. These are not chronological: structuring the book around the mythogeography Legend has (dis)organised the walks into a sequence that wanders in and out of time. Towards the end of each chapter, Roy reflects on a Landscape Feature that corresponds to the Legend – exploring the workability (or playability) of mythogeographical concepts and illustrating how they have manifested in his own walking. Finally, the Jump Over the Back Fence notes  in each chapter suggest further actual walks which readers could make.
