Summary

The world has never seen such a huge business opportunity for which they have so little understanding of how to address it. Many entrepreneurs have, more or less seriously, dreamt of being able to sell just one product to every single Chinese. That dream is now quickly turning into a possibility for many hotels, restaurants, shops and attractions. As of 2012. Chinese tourists are the largest group of travellers in the world. Unfortunately, understanding of the needs that these Chinese tourists have is exceptionally poor. What do they want to eat, do or buy? Where do they want to stay, and what places do they want to visit? All these differ radically from the needs of other tourists. In this book, we will take you through what is different and why it is so. In the book, we will also offer ideas on how to easily shift your offering to match what Chinese tourists want. We will also provide plenty of examples on what others have done to attract their business -- since, naturally, many have already invested heavily to do this. So yes, competition for Chinese tourists has undoubtedly begun, but an equally vital investment for winning this fight is understanding. What do you know about their needs?

We constantly encounter complex problems at home, in our places of work, and in society at large. Even if we had all the time and money in the world, sometimes no good solution can be found. So, what should we do, especially when we can’t wait? The answer: a workaround. For ages, global corporations have been lecturing small organizations and not-for-profits on how to get things done. As it turns out, it should have been the other way around. In this groundbreaking audiobook, award-winning researcher Paulo Savaget shows how the most valuable lessons about problem-solving can be learned from the scrappiest groups.Savaget draws most of his examples from small organizations dedicated to social action that have made an art form out of subverting the status quo and have proved themselves adept at achieving massive wins with minimal resources. Through his research, Savaget identified the four workarounds that these groups commonly employ: the piggyback, the loophole, the roundabout, and the next best. With vivid and fascinating examples from his life and travels, he demonstrates how each one works and how to know which one to use when. The Four Workarounds shows how seemingly intractable problems—from public urination to the challenges of delivering lifesaving medicine to remote communities—were addressed using unconventional tactics. Some of the world’s biggest and most admired companies are already using Savaget’s research to transform the ways they do business. And these same lessons can also revolutionize the ways we approach the challenges we all encounter every day of our lives.A Macmillan Audio production from Flatiron Books.

Brand Against the Machine is the blueprint on how to market your brand to attract better clients and to break out from the noise that is traditional corporate branding. Most branding books talk about ability and creating great products or services. This is simply the 'Field of Dreams' approach to marketing; thinking that just because you have a product or service, you're going to make money, is a huge mistake. While ability is important, it's your visibility that matters. Visibility gets you in the door, your ability keeps you there. Some of the strategies the author will focus on in the book include: The Anti-Hero Method: How to instantly stand out from the crowd by taking a different position in the marketplace The 20/60/20 Rule: Why it's important to take a stand and why the more people hate you, the stronger your bond will be with those who love you   Mother-In-Law Method: How to be real with your audience 10:100 Formula For Success: WOW 10 and they'll tell 100 Aspirational Currency: Become a brand that people want to be or be friends with Association Positioning: How to establish credibility Define Yourself Before Someone Else Does Brand Against the Machine offers proven and actionable steps for companies and entrepreneurs to increase their brand visibility and credibility, and to create an indispensable brand to which consumers can relate, thus becoming life-long customers.

Join Virginia Tech economics professor Michael Ellerbrock, the recipient of numerous teaching awards, for a comprehensive, jargon-free overview of the principles and applications of economics. Economics has been called the “Dismal Science,” yet it has also been deemed a field worthy of a Nobel Prize. In this enlightening audio course, Prof. Ellerbrock explains the reason behind this dichotomy: the fact that economics reveals the best and worst implications of humans pursuing their own self-interest.  The director of the Center for Economic Education at Virginia Tech, Prof. Ellerbrock has encyclopedic knowledge of economic principles and a talent for explaining their relevance to the world around us. The first 12 lectures explore macroeconomics, the study of the institutions and relationships in economic systems such as capitalism, socialism, communism, and informal economies. You’ll examine fiscal and monetary policy, the role of government in the economy, deficit financing, unemployment, international trade, and wealth creation. Next, you will zoom in with 12 lectures on microeconomics, which studies the behavior of individuals. You’ll look at the consumer, firm, saver, and investor, as well as market structures and functions, examining emerging schools-of-thought regarding population economics, natural resource economics, and development economics. Granted plentiful teaching awards by his students as well as his peers, Prof. Ellerbrock is known for his dynamic lectures, which use real-world examples to bring abstract principles to vivid life. As you take in each masterful recording, you’ll use the lens of economics to better understand history as well as the contemporary moment. This course is part of the Learn25 collection.
