Summary

The Dark Angels – a notorious band of brigands turned folk heroes who disbanded a decade ago – are all that stands between humanity and disaster. Reunited with their ship, The Ion Raider, Drake, Leesa, Jen and their fellow Angels must prevent a resurrected Elder, last of a long dead alien race from reclaiming the scientific marvels of his people.

The resurrected alien, Mudball, has discovered the whereabouts of the ultimate Elder cache, long considered to be a myth. Supported by an outlawed military regiment and a star-spanning criminal organisation, Mudball is intent on using the scientific marvels stored there to establish itself as God over all of humankind.
Can one ship of reluctant heroes hope to stop them? The Dark Angels know they have little choice but to try.

"Dark Angels Rising is a spirited space opera that combines all the required ingredients of the sub-genre: epic space battles, futuristic weaponry, scheming armies and enigmatic aliens." - The Guardian

"What do you get when you cross the epic scope of a space opera with the close-knit personality-driven narrative of a heist? Dark Angels Rising synthesises the best of both genres... Whether you enjoy science fiction, superheroic teams or the heist formula, this novel is genuine fun in every single aspect." - Aurealis

There is more at stake here than just the conquest of territory. It’s a matter of survival for the human race. On one of the hurriedly evacuated planets, Captain Darski wages his own private war to save as many people as possible. When the ruthless aliens attack the outer reaches of the Federation, Humankind is forced to retreat haphazardly from dozens of conquered systems. The only chance to delay the advance of the enemy is to create hundreds of fake colonies. If that doesn’t work, the Fleet will be forced to face the ma’lahn in a series of open battles, which can lead to its annihilation. Politicians, however, do not care about the consequences. Their goal is to preserve power, even at the cost of billions of lives. The headquarters of the third metasector must meet the requirements of the Council on the one hand, and prevent the destruction of the only force that is able to defend Humankind on the other. But this war has another—human and personal—dimension: Major Darski must fight to save the colonists that he left on Ulietta…. Edge of Extinction is book three in The Fields of Long-Forgotten Battles series.
